More information on NewCold can be found on www.newcold.com and our social media. About the vacancy About the Role We are seeking an experienced Shunter to join our Transport team in Bodmin. This is a key role supporting the safe and efficient movement of trailers on-site, ensuring operational compliance and maintaining high safety standards. Shift Pattern: 4 over 7 (Monday to Thursday) 12 hour night shifts, with overtime expectation to support factory output. Salary: £45,077.51 based on the minimum guaranteed hours. Location: Bodmin. Contract: FTC 12-months. Key Responsibilities Perform daily vehicle and trailer checks, reporting defects in accordance with company procedures. Monitor trailer temperatures, fuel levels, and mains connections, ensuring product integrity and legal compliance. Safely coordinate the movement and parking of empty trailers, providing clear direction to incoming drivers. Complete full trailer audits at the beginning of each shift, maintaining accurate trailer inventory. Oversee goods loading and collections, ensuring secure and temperature-compliant storage. Inspect returning vehicles for damage and escalate issues as necessary. Operate vehicles legally, safely, and professionally at all times. Adhere strictly to all health and safety protocols for self and others on-site. Maintain a clean, safe and organised work environment, including tugs, trailers and units. Comply fully with DEFRA vehicle hygiene and contamination risk standards. Support additional shift coverage when required, in accordance with the Working Time Directive and driving hours legislation. Contribute to a 365-day operational schedule, primarily focused on Monday to Friday deliveries. Required Experience and Qualifications: Proven experience in shunting or yard vehicle movement roles. Valid Class 1 (CE) licence with no DR endorsements and a maximum of 3 penalty points. Driver Qualification Card (CPC). Successful completion of in-house Shunt or Tug training. Strong working knowledge of driver hours legislation and the Working Time Directive. Confident communicator, both face-to-face and via radio or transport systems. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating priorities. Able to address site or vehicle-related issues calmly and efficiently. Are you up for the job?
