Job Description
Job title: System Administrator
Location: Stevenage, UK - hybrid
Scope
Akkodis is seeking an experienced System Administrator to support mission-critical infrastructure across our client’s exploration rover breadboarding environment and telecoms satellite systems. These environments increasingly rely on tools, operating systems, and services that fall outside standard IM/IT support, including both legacy spacecraft toolchains and cutting-edge development platforms.
Role
This role will work closely with GNC and Software teams, ensuring continuity, maintainability, and evolution of bespoke systems used across long-lifecycle spacecraft programmes and rapidly developing rover projects.
You will be responsible for sustaining, extending, and, in some cases, first understanding and reverse-engineering older infrastructures before introducing changes or redeployments.
Responsibilities
* Maintain, configure, and evolve the bespoke infrastructure supporting GNC and Software teams.
* Administer a wide range of hosts: industrial PCs, workstation PCs, VMs, and field-deployed hardware with inconsistent network access.
* Manage large VM-based telecoms environments requiring consistent, tightly controlled system replication.
* Install and configure physical machines, including racking, UPS/power management, acoustic racks, and network requirements.
* Contribute to the architecture, design, and implementation of the wider IT systems supporting spacecraft and rover programmes.
Required experience
* Git experience for version control of scripts and configurations.
* Podman or equivalent containerisation technologies, including:
* Hardware passthrough for specialised graphical or compute needs
* Hardware emulation (QEMU)
* Physical system installation & support hardware, including:
* Rack installation and acoustic/thermal considerations
* Power delivery / UPS systems
* Network configuration for specialised environments
