Advanced Rheumatology Physiotherapist - UK residents

To be a clinical lead for the Rheumatology Team with responsibility for the planning, delivery and evaluation of the service on a day-to-day basis.
To be a team leader responsible for the management, organisation, and development of Physiotherapy services within the Rheumatology speciality, working in partnership with the Physiotherapy Team Manager and other Advanced Physiotherapists.
To work as an autonomous practitioner with responsibility for the management of a clinical caseload, providing highly specialised assessment, treatment and advice to patients.
To provide highly specialist advice to the speciality team and to staff working in other specialist areas or professions.
To provide supervision, advice and guidance to Specialist Physiotherapists, Physiotherapists, assistants and students on a day-to-day basis.
To be responsible for the clinical practice of physiotherapy assistants and undergraduate physiotherapy students who work under your supervision.
To take a leading role in the planning and delivery of training and education for the physiotherapy team, supporting the professional and personal development of staff.
Main duties of the job
To undertake comprehensive and highly specialised physiotherapy assessment of physical problems, frequently of a highly complex nature, using advanced clinical reasoning and assessment skills to provide an accurate diagnosis and indication of likely outcome.
To formulate an individual, agreed treatment plan based on in-depth knowledge of evidence‑based practice and to carry out appropriate treatment in a manner that respects patients' privacy, dignity and individuality.
To monitor the appropriateness of referrals to the Rheumatology Physiotherapy Team.
To regularly provide highly specialist advice, assistance and education for Physiotherapists, assistants and students regarding patient management.
To accept patients transferred from other team members where the complexity of their problems requires a more specialised level of expertise.
To implement and review clinical standards relevant to the work undertaken by the team, ensuring a high level of patient care is provided.
To supervise and support Specialist Physiotherapists, Physiotherapists, Physiotherapy Assistants and clerical staff, in partnership with the team manager and clinical lead Physiotherapists.
To be a member of the multidisciplinary team and attend relevant meetings, providing specialist advice on patient care.
About us
We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal – as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital, a GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of general hospital services, with full emergency departments, critical/coronary care units and various consultant‑led services.
WGH provides a range of general hospital services, together with an urgent treatment centre for non‑life‑threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Education and qualifications
* Health and Care Professions Council registered Physiotherapist
* Honours degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy
* Post‑graduate training to Masters level or equivalent in a specialist field
* Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
Experience
* Clinical experience working at a senior level in Rheumatology
* Advanced and comprehensive knowledge in the field of Rheumatology
* Evidence of continual professional development to an advanced level
* Experience of supervising qualified staff, students and assistant staff
Skills, ability and knowledge
* Skills beyond the scope of Physiotherapy (e.g., X‑ray/imaging/blood results/ prescribing/injections)
* Strong leadership skills
* Ability to meet the physical/psychological requirements of the role
* Ability to travel
