Job Overview
We are seeking a competent and reliable Phlebotomist to support a busy GP surgery in Norfolk on a short-term locum basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a high-quality venepuncture service while ensuring patient care, safety, and accurate record-keeping using SystmOne.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform venepuncture on a wide range of patients, including adults and children where appropriate
* Accurately label, handle, and prepare blood samples for laboratory collection
* Use SystmOne to check patient records, request forms, and document procedures
* Ensure correct patient identification and adherence to infection prevention and control guidelines
* Maintain a clean, safe, and organised clinical environment
* Manage workload efficiently during busy clinics
* Provide reassurance and support to anxious patients
* Report any issues, incidents, or abnormal findings to the clinical team
Requirements
* Proven experience as a Phlebotomist within a GP surgery or primary care setting
* Competence in using SystmOne
* Excellent venepuncture skills with a high success rate
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Knowledge of infection control and patient safety standards
* Valid DBS (preferred)
* Up-to-date mandatory training and immunisations
Working Pattern
* 2–3 days per week (flexible days)
* Short-term role for 3 weeks
Desirable Skills
* Experience working in NHS GP practices
* Confidence managing high patient volumes
* Experience with paediatric blood draws
