About the role
The Technical Lead plays a key role in boosting the skills and capability of our wastewater operational teams. You'll deliver high‑impact technical training both in the classroom and out in the field while creating function‑specific learning solutions that demonstrate our competency to regulators.
Your day will be varied, from hands‑on training and assessments to updating learning systems, standardising content, and providing focused personalised technical coaching. Working closely with internal and external experts, you'll bring together the right knowledge to shape effective training solutions, ensuring EDI principles run through every session.
What you will be responsible for:
In this role, you will be responsible for the design and development of high‑quality technical training materials that support wastewater operational excellence. You will establish structured learning pathways and collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure complex operational information is presented clearly and effectively. You will also maintain and enhance e‑learning resources, ensuring accuracy and instructional integrity, while identifying skills gaps and producing tailored content to address development needs. Additionally, you will contribute to function‑specific learning solutions that demonstrate regulatory competency requirements.
* Deliver confident, engaging classroom and practical training sessions
* Present technical topics clearly to audiences ranging from frontline operators to senior leaders
* Lead group discussions that spark knowledge‑sharing and build an inclusive learning environment
* Coach and mentor learners, offering ongoing development support using internal tools to assess, track, and measure competency
* Conduct technical assessments to ensure consistent operational standards
* Continually refine and improve training content for accuracy, relevance, and impact
* Support wider training initiatives, improvement projects, and internal knowledge‑sharing activities
Essential
* Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to a wide range of audiences
* Passion for developing others, with a natural desire to share knowledge and support learning
* Confident delivering both classroom and practical training sessions
* Skilled at presenting technical topics to operators, managers, and senior stakeholders
* Comfortable leading group discussions and creating inclusive, high‑energy learning environments
* Proactive in identifying skills gaps and building targeted learning solutions
* Capable of creating engaging training content, including classroom materials and e‑learning modules
Desirable
* Extensive experience in wastewater operations
* Strong understanding of regulatory and safety standards
* Relevant Level 3 or equivalent qualification. E.g. AET, Business Coaching
* Understanding of how to design and build engaging learning experiences
