Overview

Quality and Information Management Technician - Infection Sciences

This is a newly created role for an individual with good IT skills, attention to detail, strong statistical analysis skills and are driven to improve quality and patient care. The closing date is 19 February 2026.


Responsibilities

A member of the Infection Sciences department, working as part of the Quality team, providing support to Microbiology, Virology and Immunology to maintain and achieve regulatory standards.

Directed by the Infection Sciences Support and Operational Managers the post holder will assist the department in the duties outlined. The role will involve training of other Pathology staff and the post holder will work in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.

This support involves internal and external quality assessment, record keeping, data and statistical analysis, audit, data input, production of reports and training and administration activities associated with the Quality Management System (QMS) for all disciplines.

The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

Standard Check: £21.50 + Administration cost of £5.90 = £27.40. Deducted from salary over a 4 month period or a one-off payment.

Enhanced Check: £49.50 + administration cost of £5.90 = £55.40. Deducted from salary over a 4 month period or a one-off payment.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Foundation degree in laboratory practices, or equivalent.


Knowledge

* Underpinning theory of pathology techniques.
* Laboratory health and safety, COSHH, and risk assessment.
* Equality issues.
* Knowledge of Data Protection and Caldicott Principles and understanding the requirement to maintain confidentiality
* Audits


Experience

* Monitoring compliance against standards.
* Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
* Computer literate with knowledge of computer packages: Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint - post is computer based
* Able to work without supervision following protocols and instructions accurately
* Supervision and training of staff members
* Data Entry
* Quality management software or equivalent experience
* Knowledge of one or more pathology service areas
* Working to quality standards within a UK clinical laboratory or equivalent experience


Skills

* Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.
* Flexible approach to work and adaptable to change.
* Ability to communicate accurately, verbally and in writing
* Able to use initiative appropriately within a team.
* Ability to analyse work to determine compliance with standards.
* Good organisational skills.
* Able to analyse complex facts or situations. IT literate
* Able to take the lead in proposing new ideas and approaches
* Able to work confidently and efficiently under pressure and to deadlines and give support to other staff
* Able to disseminate information effectively to other staff
* Ability to problem solve for self and for the associated teams
* This is a quality based role and long periods of concentration required with attention to detail is essential. Manage interruptions and queries whilst concentrating
