Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse with a passion for wound care to be a member of the Tissue Viability team, offering specialist tissue viability advise and support across the North East London Foundation Trust (NELFT) units.

The post holder will be a registered nurse responsible for patients allocated to them and will assess, manage, plan and deliver care, including being professionally and legally accountable.

Main duties of the job

·To be responsible for organising and prioritising own and others workload

·To be a trust resource for clinical expertise in Tissue viability

·To have organisational knowledge relating to the trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them, particularly in administration of medicines and moving and handling

·To ensure effective risk management at team level by accident/incident reporting and assessing and controlling and ensuring residual risks are added to the trust register.

·To be conversant with, and work in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct (2008) and other NMC advisory papers

·To critically appraise evidence based literature and to use this knowledge to inform practice and teaching in order to promote and maintain high standards in tissue viability specialist nursing

·To maintain professional knowledge and skill through completion of relevant accredited courses attendance at external courses/ conferences, the development of an individual development plan and by developing and maintaining supportive networks

·To contribute to the clinical governance and agenda through participation in clinical risk assessment and management, clinical audit research

·To maintain our expert level of clinical competence and maintain professional portfolio

·To evaluate and develop own role in order to improve treatment and support for patients and cares and further develop service

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period.

Starting with Us

NELFT places great importance on new starters being properly welcomed into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, including mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process, new starters will also have the opportunity to meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend several drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing, and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - Fringe

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £1,192 to a maximum of £2,011 pro rata for part time).

Essential criteria

4. RN with current NMC registration status
5. Wound management /leg ulcer qualification
6. Nurse/Prescriber/Non-Medical Prescriber or committed to undertake

Desirable criteria

7. Post qualification in management
8. Degree in relevant area of practice or committed to undertake

Experience

Essential criteria

9. Five years nursing experience
10. Experience of working in multidisciplinary environment with a wide range of individuals at different levels.

Desirable criteria

11. Teaching and assessing in clinical practice
12. Health needs assessment

Knowledge

Essential criteria

13. An awareness of NHS priorities
14. Able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of professional and personal responsibilities and accountability in line with the NMC code of professional conduct
15. Able to provide evidence based care that is responsive to needs of patients and carers by forming a shared working partnership

16. Knowledge of information technology and health care implications
