We have an exciting opportunity for 2 skilled Highway Clerk of Works to join a busy Highways Development Management team in the beautiful county of Gloucestershire.

As a Clerk of Works you’ll take on a vital role undertaking site inspections to assess highway construction under sections 38, 184 and 278 of the Highways Act (1980). You will work across Gloucestershire to ensure developer led infrastructure is constructed to the highest standards, inspecting every stage from initial ground condition reports to final sign-off for highway adoption. You will be liaising with developers and contractors along with councillors, members of the public and Gloucestershire County Council colleagues every day as well as compiling comprehensive inspection reports and being Gloucestershire County Council’s main point of contact for all developer’s site construction teams.

This is an exciting time for talented, self-driven highway professionals to join a team and County Council going from strength-to-strength, affording you the opportunity to play a crucial part in ensuring Gloucestershire remains a desirable location where people want to live, work, and visit.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have extensive knowledge of specifications and standards relating to the highway and construction sector along with experience of the on-site delivery of highway improvement schemes. You will have experience of CDM regulations, Road Safety Audits, Traffic Regulations and NRSWA and be familiar with related guidance and legislation such as TSRGD, LTN1/20, Tactile Paving Surfaces and SuDS. You will be capable of working independently and possess strong technical and engineering acumen. You will be personable and professional, with a proven track record of providing robust technical solutions to complex engineering problems. You will bring your problem-solving skills and customer-focused nature to a talented team delivering a crucial service.

You will be proactive and committed to your professional development within civil engineering and, more specifically, highways development management.

About Us

We are committed to investing in your development and operate flexible times and ways of working. Although you will be predominantly out meeting developers and their contractors anywhere within the County, you will also be working on your laptop in one of our offices or working from home.

As you’d expect, we offer an attractive package of benefits which makes a career in Local Government both flexible and rewarding.

For all your hard work, you will receive the following:
