The Advanced Polymer Technologies business is the market leader in Caprolactone and Polycaprolactone products globally. The business is geographically balanced. Our products go into a very diverse set of applications such as Polyurethane Materials, Adhesives & Sealants, Coatings, Polymer additives and Bioplastics that are used for end markets such as Industrial equipment, Automotive, Footwear, Consumer packaging, Electronic devices, Medical and Furniture. The performance characteristics of the Capa chemistry provides unique properties in our targeted end markets that allow both us and our customers to differentiate through innovative new products.
Reporting to theR&DManager, theR&DDevelopment Chemistwill be part of a dynamic teamexecuting novelresearch anddevelopment activitiesthat feed thenewproductdevelopment pipeline.Thecore focuswill be to push the performance boundaries ofCaprolactone chemistryincurrent applicationsbut also to evaluate options to move into new chemistries, new applications and new markets.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The following responsibilities are associated with this job rolebut are not limited to:
SAFETY

1. Support and seek to improve high laboratory standards of safety and housekeeping in accordance with local, site and legal requirements (including REACH, COSHH) to ensure that a safe working environment is maintained.
2. Ensure thatallactivities are performed according to the EHSQ system oftheInnovationdepartmentandWarrington site.
3. Ensure thatallnecessary EHSQ documents are maintained and revisedwhenneeded
INNOVATION
Innovation is the key growthleverfor the APT business of Ingevity and the main driver forsecuring our future business. Within this function the job holdershould:
4. Be technical leadforproduct development in support of ADTSand R&D platform projects.
5. Planand conductexperimental programs related to the synthesis and development of new polymer materials and products.
6. Conductlaboratory and pilot plant experimentation,working in collaboration with other team members as necessary
7. Record allexperimentalinformationinlaboratory notebooks.Analyse the resultstomake conclusions andsuggestrecommendationsin a formal report.
8. Use gated process to run R&D projects and collaborate with R&D Manager to prepare necessary documentation to report out to the Portfolio Team
9. Participate in Market Development teams to keepup to date on market requirements
10. Preparemonthlyreports andperiodicreview reports
11. Liaise withCross functionalIngevity personnelwithin sales, technical, operational and supply chain functionsas required
12. Acquire knowledge and keep up to date with the developments in the field of polymer technologyrelatedto polyurethanes technology for job performance and personal improvement.
13. Identify, propose and evaluate innovative ideas for new product and process development.
14. Identify opportunities for improvement in the departmentwork processes using a CImethodology
15. Participatein the IP strategy of the business, using their knowledgeand experience to support patent filing as an inventor or co-owneras appropriate.
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
If supervising Chemists or Technicians,the job holder should:
16. Guideand coach labpersonnelunder the supervision of the job holder
17. Encourage a sense of ownership of work and processes to those being supervised
18. Encourage a collaborative work ethic within the Innovation team
ADMINISTRATION
As well as for IP and goodtechnicalrecord keeping thejob holder is responsibleto:
19. Protect confidentiality of information related to work within the company such that no unauthorized person can gain access.
20. Comply with company IT and legal policies
21. Ensure that all work carried out is recorded in the appropriate format and filed in the appropriate manner in order to ensure traceability.
Authority
22. To plan and executeworktasks as defined under responsibilities to ensure their execution
23. To procure laboratory chemicalsup to pilot plant quantitiesand supplies from suppliers as required
24. Equipment purchasing recommendations to line manager
25. Ability to make informed decisions related to experimental work undertaken
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
26. BSCor higherin Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
27. 3-5yearsindustrial laboratory experience with a track record of increasingresponsibility
28. Demonstrated expertise inpolymer synthesis
29. Astrongworkingknowledge of analytical chemistry,polymerphysical testingand thermal analysis methods
30. Practical knowledge of laboratory safety principles especially in conducting risk analyses and assessing hazardous chemicals (REACH, COSHH).
31. Knowledgeablein Design of experimentsand statistical analysis
32. Basicproject management skills
