The Clinical Lead will lead and direct a multidisciplinary area and team of clinical staff in delivering the priorities, goals and objectives agreed with the Clinical Director and the Barts Heart Centre Director across the following domains:
• Well Led – Leadership, governance, and promoting learning and innovation
• Responsive – Services are well organised to meet the needs of patients
• Safe – Protecting staff and patients from abuse and avoidable harm
• Effective – Care, treatment and support achieves great patient outcomes
• Caring – Patients are treated with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect

The postholder will be personally accountable for the overall performance of the specialty area and team in delivering national and local health care priorities, ensuring clinical quality, patient safety, and improving patient experience.
The Clinical Lead will work closely with the relevant Clinical Director, Radiography lead, and the Service Manager to support the Clinical Director for Cardiac Diagnostics.
The Clinical Lead will foster a culture of learning and innovation, realising the potential synergies with education and research.

Main duties of the job


The Clinical Lead will be responsible for the management of the specialty team of clinicians, valuing good performance, addressing poor performance, and enabling staff to identify concerns and ensure that these are resolved. They will provide support to all staff, fostering a culture to develop strong and effective clinical leadership.

The Clinical Lead will model the attitudes and behaviors of a senior clinical leader in accordance with the values of the Trust, to improve health and reduce health inequalities, and to promote equalities among both staff and patients.

The post will have a key role in working in partnership with the Clinical Director in the setting of clinical quality standards and formulation of clinical and service strategy.

The Clinical Lead will also support the Clinical Director and Medical Director in the operational delivery of the annual delivery plans for each clinical network.

As a Clinical Lead you will play a key role in ensuring that the hospitals deliver on the objectives set out in the quality improvement plan, ‘Safe and Compassionate’, to achieve the highest standards of patient care.

The Clinical Lead role will be ideal for emergent and established leaders who are interested in clinical leadership in a healthcare system which serves a globally unique population in one of the most dynamic and diverse areas of London.

The Clinical Lead may be required to deputise for the Clinical Director on occasio

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Registration with relevant professional body
2. Postgraduate qualifications
3. Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable criteria

4. Management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

5. Employed substantively and permanently (inc. honorary) in clinical practice within Barts Health NHS Trust
6. Evidence of continuing professional development
7. Worked clinically at a senior level

Desirable criteria

8. Track record of achieving financial targets
9. Establishing and sustaining effective strategic direction
10. Track record of innovation

Knowledge

Essential criteria

11. A good understanding of the current context of health and social care, and of clinical learning and research
12. A good understanding of the specific issues in East London relevant to health and social care
13. A broad understanding of the systems for primary care, social care and commissioning
14. Knowledge of the Trust priorities

Skills

Essential criteria

15. Demonstrable leadership skills
16. Able to think and act strategically and to articulate a clear vision and sense of direction
17. Able to define and implement policy development at site level Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
18. Able to lead continuous change and improvement in services, encouraging the use of new clinical and service technologies within a multidisciplinary team
