The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role & Key Responsibilities

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen within the recently created Sussex Police Road Safety Team (RST).

As the newly appointed Data Analyst you will be joining a small, friendly team.

You will work with the Data Manager, Road Safety Operations Managers and Safety Camera Team Manager and the wider RST, to effectively measure and monitor performance.

You will analyse national and local data to identify trends and patterns so that the team can make informed business decisions in order to reduce deaths and injuries (KSI’s) on the roads of Sussex.


Skills & Experience

Design methodologies / systems to draw together and analyse, maintain, manipulate and present data and information, design and create end to end processes for the collection and analyses of relevant data.

Analyse and interpret complex data and undertake quantitative and qualitative analysis using appropriate software, Power BI, Microsoft Excel and databases.

Produce reports, performance products and briefings for a wide range of audiences, using the most appropriate format, considering the need to present data in a range of graphical and tabular formats as appropriate.

Where required, mentor/coach the technicians.

Support colleagues with data-related tasks, providing clear and concise specialist advice and guidance regarding business processes, and deliver presentations on data as appropriate.

Share relevant knowledge, skills and experiences with colleagues, partners and stakeholders, coaching and mentoring as necessary to help ensure continuous professional development.

Develop and produce information for a variety of departments, organisations and members of the public as required, building strong professional relationships to promote and facilitate the collection of data and information sharing.

Conduct analysis and research for specific locations, generate reports, and provide information for triage processing of community concern areas. Conduct analysis and research as required to answer FOI requests relating to data sources held by the Road Safety Data Team.

Responsible for the regular handling, care of, accuracy, confidentiality, security and maintenance of considerable amounts of manual and computerised information.

Remain up to date with all relevant legislation, systems and organisational procedures, policies and professional codes of practice to uphold standard of best practice.

Conduct deep-dive research into specific road user types/demographics, providing information to Surrey RoadSafe and Sussex Police Road Safety team as to specific trends/patterns relating to KSI’s.

Complete research and site analysis to assist in static camera procurement processes and post implementation site analysis to assess the impact of camera implementation.

Maintain and update the online Data Portal.

Create spreadsheets and databases and interrogate Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to accurately report on performance and identify trends.

Utilise information from different sources, locally and nationally to benchmark and inform the development of performance measures and assessment.

Please note this is a full time position and is based at Shoreham Police Station.
