Job Summary

Are you looking for a developing role within the Centralised Outpatients and Administration Directorate of the NHS? If you are, then come and talk to us! This key manager role of Head of Booking provides an exciting opportunity to develop and improve the elective outpatient pathway.

As the leader of the centralised outpatient booking department, you will be responsible for delivering outpatient booking services while supporting cross‑trust improvement schemes. The full‑time permanent post is based primarily at Burnley General Hospital but will also support all directorates across East Lancashire Hospitals Trust sites and will require occasional travel.

Flexible working is essential, with a willingness to work at other Trust sites between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm to support staff cover for holidays or sickness absence.

Responsibilities

* Operationally manage the administration and clerical aspects of the Central Outpatient Booking Department to deliver a high‑quality, modern and patient‑centred service.
* Review and improve department systems and processes to make them as streamlined as possible, utilising digital processes to support delivery.
* With the Directorate Manager, redesign services, develop projects and drive improvement across all booking services, including the Electronic Referral System and Electronic Patient Record.
* Maintain an effective communication network within the department so that all staff are aware of corporate and directorate aims and objectives.
* Monitor the cost‑effectiveness of the department and conduct timely reviews to ensure adherence to Trust policies and procedures.
* Recruit, select, train and develop staff in accordance with agreed Trust policies and procedures.
* Maintain staff records, training records and set objectives and personal development plans, integrating them into the annual personal development review system.
* Provide effective leadership so that all staff work professionally, reviewing workloads to ensure staffing levels/skill mix and resources meet the needs of the service.


Day‑to‑Day Management

The post holder will be part of the Centralised Outpatient and Administration Directorate management team, which also covers Community Reception, Radiology Reception, Breast Imaging Administration and General Outpatients nursing teams.

Responsibilities include:

* Day‑to‑day management of the Centralised Outpatient Booking Team, providing leadership and excellent communication.
* Ensuring the team is fully engaged and motivated at work.
* Ensuring team members have the knowledge, skills and experience required for their roles, including personal development plans to achieve their full potential.
* Collaborating and working closely across all elective care specialities to deliver highly effective administration functions.
