Applications are invited for the post of Reducing Restrictive Practice Nurse – West London Forensic services.
West London Forensic service in-patient wards provide a safe and therapeutic environment for mental health service users detained under the Mental Health Act. The core aim is to provide a safe environment where service users receive mental health care based on Trauma-informed Care and the least restrictive principles. The post aims to improve all aspects of restrictive practices while ensuring service user safety, including governance of relevant processes and measures.
This role is subject to change based on organizational needs and may involve working at different locations within the Trust, as well as other duties such as project work, internal rotations, and absence coverage.
The post holder will collaborate with the Restrictive Practice Lead to maintain and report on governance data related to restrictive practices.
Main duties of the job
* Work as RRP Clinical Nurse within inpatient and SCFT team
* Develop, implement, and evaluate interventions supporting the clinical pathway for service users, especially those subjected to STS / LTS, Restraint, and Rapid Tranquilization
* Provide training to staff and service users
* Supervise and support the reducing restrictive practice team
* Coordinate with PMVA staff to ensure training meets standards and reflects best practices
* Enhance service user experience through feedback and engagement initiatives
* Assist in developing and evaluating policies and protocols for nursing practice
* Demonstrate advanced expertise in a specific area
* Build partnerships with other services and agencies
* Audit and improve nursing practices and standards
* Develop and deliver training programs for staff and service users
* Provide reports and identify service development opportunities

Person specification
Qualifications and Training
* Current RN (Mental Health) registration with the NMC
* Degree or equivalent qualification
* At least 2 years’ clinical practice experience at band 6 or 7
* Trained as a Quality Improvement Coach
* Post-registration CPD or equivalent experience
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
* Understanding of Trust policies, legal frameworks, and human rights related to restrictive practices
* Leadership, change management, and clinical development skills
* Experience with quality improvement, audit, and governance
* Training and teaching expertise
* Service user-focused with collaborative practice experience
* Autonomous working ability with critical judgment
* In-depth clinical knowledge and commitment to service user involvement
* Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
* Computer literacy and experience with data management and QI tools
