Head of Service for Radiology

To lead and develop the Countess of Chester Hospital Radiology Service, providing comprehensive advice and support including training opportunities to all grades of staff within the Radiology department. To be responsible for achieving both national and local waiting time targets.
Main duties of the job
o To work with the directorate manager to support the business planning process for the department, identifying cost improvements and service development.
o To be responsible for the provision of a safe, effective and responsive imaging service.
o To be responsible for recruitment, selection and appointment of staff ensuring all HR policies relating to sickness, performance and disciplinary are adhered to.
o To ensure there are clear lines of communication both within the department and to external stakeholders.
o To provide expert advice for the effective procurement of imaging equipment.
o To support the Radiology Directorate Leadership Team in developing, managing and delivering high quality, responsive and effective services in line with the Trust's strategic direction.
o To perform annual appraisals, ensure all staff are appraised and make sure staff have access to CPD facilities and attend appropriate courses in line with the Trust statutory and mandatory training requirements.
o Lead on the development and maintenance of a positive culture which is inclusive, compassionate and high performing. It will support career development, recruitment and retention of the clinical workforce and their effective contribution to service delivery and improvement.
About us
The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
o The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds.o Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility.o Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.
The Trust employs over 5916 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 411,000. This includes 361,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.
The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Radiography BSc (Hons)Degree or equivalent
* Educated to MSc level or relevant extensive experience
* HCPC registered
* Good understanding of IRMER 2017 and IRR 2017 regulations
* Evidence of continuous professional development and maintenance of mandatory training
* PGCert in a modality specialism/management
Skills
* Ability to communicate effectively to ensure high standards of care, treatment, service or support as appropriate to the role
* Proven ability to provide a customer focussed service
* Ability to give effective feedback and feed forward to radiographers/students
* Demonstrates passion for excellence
* Can show evidence of managing the proposal of change and implementation of change in a health setting and show positive benefits from the experience.
Knowledge and Experience
* Significant experience at Band 7, or equivalent in radiography in a leadership role
* Recent experience in acute hospital setting in UK
* Experience of leading recruitment, appraisal, staff development, performance and sickness management
* Experience of managing flow within the acute setting
* Demonstrates specialist expertise underpinned by theory acquired through CPD
