About the role
We are seeking an experienced Principal Drainage Design Engineer to lead drainage and water management solutions for Rail Infrastructure projects across the UK. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, coordination, and delivery of drainage systems within the rail sector, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practice.
What you'll be doing
* Lead the design and management of drainage systems for Rail Infrastructure projects, including trackside, station, and depot drainage.
* Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior engineers and design teams.
* Develop and review sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS) and flood risk assessments in accordance with UK regulations.
* Ensure compliance with Network Rail, HS2, and other relevant drainage and
environmental standards (e.g., DMRB, CIRIA C753, SuDS Manual).
* Conduct hydraulic modelling and analysis using industry-standard software such as
MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow, InfoWorks ICM, and Civil 3D.
* Engage with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to deliver cost-effective and
innovative drainage solutions.
* Oversee project deliverables, from feasibility studies through to detailed design and
construction support.
* Manage technical risks, design constraints, and environmental considerations in
drainage design.
* Assist in business development activities, including bid preparation and client
engagement.
Who we're looking for
* Degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, or a related field.
* Chartered status (CEng) or working towards chartership (ICE, CIWEM, or
equivalent).
* Extensive experience in drainage design within the rail, highways, or infrastructure
sectors.
* Proficiency in drainage design software (e.g., MicroDrainage, InfoWorks ICM, Civil
3D, Causeway Flow).
* Strong understanding of Network Rail standards, SuDS, and UK drainage
regulations.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and deliver projects to tight deadlines.
* Experience with flood risk assessments and hydraulic modelling.
* Familiarity with BIM and digital engineering processes is desirable
