We have an exciting opportunity for a band 5 staff nurse to join the gynaecology outpatients department and Early Pregnancy Unit. The post is 30 hours and on a secondment basis for 1 year to fill a vacancy left by another member of staff on secondment. You will work in a variety of general gynaecology clinics including fertility, uro-gynae and gynae-oncology. In addition, and with appropriate training you will work in the nurse-led early pregnancy clinic and pessary clinic where you will manage your own workload. You will have a passion for women’s health improving the outcomes for patients in your care through advocacy and health promotion. You will be part of a small team of nurses, as well as working alongside the MDT including clinicians, sonographers and specialist nurses, in order to provide excellent, evidence-based care to the local community, while maintaining the values of the health board of Caring for each other, Working together and Always improving.
Main duties of the job
-Running your own gynaecology clinic either with a doctor or independently in a nurse-led clinic

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will be expected to assist clinicians during patient consultations, examinations and procedures, including vaginal examinations, the insertion of Intrauterine devices and the taking of various biopsies. You will be responsible for ensuring specimens are correctly processed for transportation to the path lab.
You will be expected to assist in the smooth running of clinics, provide support to your nursing colleagues and be able to deputise in the absence of the unit managers.
Once completing the appropriate training, you will work independently in the nurse -led Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU) and Pessary clinics.
The EPU sees patients who are between 6 and 13+6 weeks pregnant with pain or bleeding symptoms. The successful candidate would need to demonstrate kindness and empathy as well as a sound knowledge of early pregnancy to reassure patients who may be upset or in distress. As well as running the clinic, you will be trained to triage the EPU referrals and allocate patients to the clinic appropriately. Phlebotomy training is desired but full training can be given
Previous experience in gynaecology nursing is desirable but not essential as full training will be given.
