Job Overview
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, self‑motivated and experienced secretary in our Breast Department to provide comprehensive secretarial support within the department. Applicants must have previous NHS experience and possess a high level of audio typing skills. A Medical Secretarial Qualification (or equivalent experience) and qualification to a minimum of RSA Stage 2 (or equivalent) is required. The successful applicant will work as part of a team while managing an independent workload and competing priorities. A good understanding of referral to treatment (RTT) pathways and the ability to maintain reliable records is essential.
Main duties of the job
Support the coordination of administrative arrangements to provide a high‑quality secretarial service to the consultant, medical and nursing team. Work independently, organise and prioritise own workload to meet deadlines, and facilitate patient movement along a defined pathway. Welsh language skills are desirable.

Responsibilities
* Provide accurate and confidential administration services to the clinical specialty and supporting work streams.
* Support consultants, junior medical staff and other health professionals with diary management, workload coordination and appointment and admission related information.
* Ensure efficient filing and recording of information systems.
* Plan and organise time, adjusting clinic appointments and preparing notes for clinics.
* Monitor and review patient forms, chase outstanding responses and provide information and advice to patients and relatives about admissions and appointments.
* Process documents accurately and efficiently using digital dictation, analogue dictation and other clinician‑directed methods.
* Demonstrate self‑directed development and practice of patient administrative systems, exercising judgement and expertise.
* Ensure safe use of equipment, reporting defects via the IT Helpdesk Service.
Qualifications
* NVQ Business Administration Level 3 or equivalent experience.
* RSA/OCR Level 2 or equivalent and proficient use of Microsoft Word.
* IT qualification CLAIT Plus/ECDL or equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications
* AMSPAR – City & Guilds Level 3.
* NVQ Customer Service Level 3.
Experience
* Knowledge of a range of administrative processes.

* Experience working within the NHS (desirable).
