Job Title: Trade Counter Salesperson (Timber / Builders Merchant)
Location: Huddersfield
Pay Rate: £13.00 per hour (negotiable for the right candidate)
Employment Type: Permanent (via agency introduction)
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday: 7.30am – 5.00pm
3 Saturdays per month: 8.00am – 12.00pm
Company Overview:
Our client is a well-established and growing independent timber and building materials supplier based in Huddersfield. They pride themselves on excellent customer service and providing quality products to local tradespeople and the general public. They are now looking to appoint a full-time Trade Counter Salesperson to join their friendly and professional team.
This is a permanent opportunity, ideally suited to someone with previous experience in a trade counter or merchant environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve customers at the trade counter in a prompt, professional, and friendly manner
Process sales, take payments (cash and card), and manage invoices using computerised systems
Provide advice on timber sizes, materials, and product availability
Help with picking and preparing customer orders for collection
Support with physical loading of goods into customer vehicles – some heavy lifting is involved
Assist with general housekeeping, tidiness, and organisation of the trade counter area
Participate in regular stock takes and promotional setups as needed
Candidate Requirements:
Previous experience in a builders merchants, timber yard, or trade counter environment is highly desirable
Comfortable with physical aspects of the role – manual handling is part of the day-to-day
Basic computer skills and confidence using a sales or invoicing system
Friendly, reliable, and professional in appearance and manner
Able to work well as part of a small, hands-on team
Strong communication skills and a focus on customer service
Additional Information:
Starting hourly rate of £13.00, with flexibility for the right candidate
Permanent role with long-term prospects
45-hour working week, plus Saturday mornings on a rota
Immediate start available for the right person
