We are looking to recruit innovative midwives who are passionate about providing quality care to birthing families and dedicated to evidence based care. In Oxfordshire, we offer a unique setup of our Maternity Services where around 7500 babies are born annually. We have 4 stand-alone Midwifery Led Birth units within the county and an integrated birth unit; John Radcliffe Hospital provides a large Delivery Suite with three Maternity theatres and a dedicated Maternity Recovery Ward. This advert is for newly qualified midwives due to qualify by January 2026 or who have qualified in the past 12 months. Newly qualified midwives will participate in a 12-18 month preceptorship program designed by our team of Practice Development midwives.

We currently have roles available for Band 5 Midwives within the John Radcliffe hospital setting and in a small number of community teams.

Detailed job information and responsibilities
* Main Responsibilities:
Fulfil the role of midwife as defined by the World Health Organisation and the NMC Midwives Rules and Code of Practice.
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate midwifery care for a defined group of women, aligning with county-wide standards and philosophies.
* Accurately document all care provided.
* Provide clinical supervision and support to less experienced midwives and maternity care assistants.
* Organise own workload and maintain awareness of current advances in practice.
* Develop clinical expertise through experience, courses and study days; demonstrate consolidation of skills and knowledge.
* Contribute to programmes of care to develop parenting skills and knowledge; participate in evidence-based practice and research as appropriate.
* Act as advocate for women and families with support from a senior colleague to ensure appropriate care.
* Participate in the on-call rota where appropriate and develop the ability to take charge on a shift-by-shift basis.
* Be able to cannulate and suture.

Person specification
Qualification and experience: UK student midwife due to register by January 2026 or already qualified in the past 12 months. Demonstrates understanding of OUH maternity services.
