What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll be taking ownership of a high-priority curriculum area with genuine scope for positive impact, as well as influencing department strategy/delivery at an exciting point of momentum – while leading a talented team with vision, confidence and accountability. Here’s a breakdown of the scope:
1. Work closely with the Faculty Director to drive strategic development and continuous improvement across the English provision
2. The opportunity be creative, forward-thinking and bold in trying new approaches, with the autonomy to innovate and think outside the box
3. Shape a curriculum that is responsive, future-focused and aligned with employer needs, local demand, and the College’s mission
4. Identify barriers, performance gaps and improvement opportunities quickly—and take decisive action to address them
5. Lead high-impact teaching, learning and assessment practices, embedding a culture of quality, performance and professional development, acting as a champion for positive cultural change, fostering high morale, empowered staff, and shared success.
6. Deliver and oversee all aspects of the College’s quality cycle including observations, standardisation, performance monitoring, RARP A audits, verification processes, staff training and Ofsted readiness.
7. Drive curriculum planning to achieve strong outcomes in attendance, achievement, progression and income targets.
What We’re Looking For
8. Genuine passion for the English curriculum delivery to drive and lead impactful improvements through innovation
9. A track record of turning challenge into progress—whether through process, people development, innovative delivery or data-driven intervention
10. A strong understanding of Ofsted requirements, awarding body regulations and how they translate into day-to-day practice
11. Demonstrable experience leading provision in Further Education or Adult Education
12. Proven success delivering performance improvements in curriculum quality and learner outcomes
13. Excellent leadership skills—able to motivate, influence and strengthen high-performing teams
14. Experience of working collaboratively with partners and internal stakeholders
