An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead our Mathematics faculty at Mountain Ash Comprehensive School. We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and values-driven leader who is passionate about Mathematics, committed to inclusion, and ambitious for every learner.
We are looking for a candidate who:
1. Is a strong, inspirational leader with the vision and drive to lead a faculty committed to delivering an engaging, challenging and relevant Mathematics curriculum for all learners.
2. Can lead, motivate and inspire staff and students, fostering a culture of high expectations, collaboration and professional trust.
3. Has a clear and ambitious vision for Mathematics, underpinned by reflective practice and a commitment to continuous improvement.
4. Is able to manage change effectively and thoughtfully, ensuring that improvement is sustainable and centred on learners’ needs.
5. Builds positive, respectful and caring relationships with students, colleagues and parents, modelling our values in daily practice.
6. Consistently models high-quality teaching and learning, with pupil progress, confidence and enjoyment of Mathematics at the heart of classroom practice.
7. Demonstrates strong organisational skills and communicates clearly and effectively with a range of stakeholders.
8. Is ambitious for themselves and others, and is fully committed to high-quality professional learning and leadership development within the faculty.
About the School
Mountain Ash Comprehensive School is a growing and improving 11–16 mixed comprehensive school (from September 2026), situated on an extensive green-field site on the outskirts of Mountain Ash in the Cynon Valley.

This next phase in the school’s journey presents an exciting opportunity for a Head of Mathematics to help shape provision, curriculum coherence and standards across Key Stages 3 and 4, ensuring that all learners are well prepared for their next steps.
The Mathematics Faculty
The successful candidate will lead a committed and professional Mathematics team with high expectations of both staff and learners. The faculty works collaboratively to ensure that Mathematics is accessible, engaging and aspirational for all pupils, while maintaining a strong focus on consistency, curriculum coherence and effective classroom practice.
You will play a key role in developing and refining a curriculum that supports progression, builds confidence, and equips learners with the mathematical knowledge and skills they need for life beyond school. There is a strong emphasis on reflective practice, teamwork and shared responsibility for improving outcomes and experiences for all learners.
