We are looking for a candidate who:

1. Is a strong, inspirational leader with the vision and drive to lead a faculty committed to delivering an engaging, challenging and relevant Mathematics curriculum for all learners.
2. Can lead, motivate and inspire staff and students, fostering a culture of high expectations, collaboration and professional trust.
3. Has a clear and ambitious vision for Mathematics, underpinned by reflective practice and a commitment to continuous improvement.
4. Is able to manage change effectively and thoughtfully, ensuring that improvement is sustainable and centred on learners’ needs.

6. Consistently models high-quality teaching and learning, with pupil progress, confidence and enjoyment of Mathematics at the heart of classroom practice.

8. Is ambitious for themselves and others, and is fully committed to high-quality professional learning and leadership development within the faculty.

About the School

Mountain Ash Comprehensive School is a growing and improving 11–16 mixed comprehensive school (from September 2026), situated on an extensive green-field site on the outskirts of Mountain Ash in the Cynon Valley.

We are a proudly inclusive school, guided by our mission that every child will succeed. Our values — Motivated, Ambitious, Caring and Self-Aware — underpin all aspects of school life and shape how we work with pupils, staff and the wider community.

This next phase in the school’s journey presents an exciting opportunity for a Head of Mathematics to help shape provision, curriculum coherence and standards across Key Stages 3 and 4, ensuring that all learners are well prepared for their next steps.

The Mathematics Faculty

The successful candidate will lead a committed and professional Mathematics team with high expectations of both staff and learners. The faculty works collaboratively to ensure that Mathematics is accessible, engaging and aspirational for all pupils, while maintaining a strong focus on consistency, curriculum coherence and effective classroom practice.

You will play a key role in developing and refining a curriculum that supports progression, builds confidence, and equips learners with the mathematical knowledge and skills they need for life beyond school. There is a strong emphasis on reflective practice, teamwork and shared responsibility for improving outcomes and experiences for all learners.

What We Can Offer You

A comprehensive and supportive staff induction programme.

Personalised professional learning and leadership development, tailored to support the next stage of your career.

Strong, visible and supportive engagement from the Senior Leadership Team.

High-quality specialist facilities and resources.

A committed, collaborative staff body who consistently go the extra mile for pupils and for each other.

Motivated, enthusiastic learners who value positive relationships and are keen to succeed.

Closing Date for Applications: Wednesday 4th February 2026 at 9.00am

Shortlisting: Friday 6th February 2026

Interviews: Thursday 12th February 2026

Safeguarding Statement

All successful applicants will be subject to a full enhanced DBS and will be unable to commence employment at the school until all pre-employment checks have been completed. The school has a rigid Safeguarding Policy in place, as well as a Safeguarding Officer and various other employees who deal with child welfare issues. Mountain Ash Comprehensive School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We particularly welcome applications from under represented groups including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion.
