Job DescriptionJob Description
Join a cutting-edge defense initiative shaping the future of Air Force connectivity. As the Senior Systems Engineer for Phalanx Griffon (PG)—the premier airborne node in the Department of the Air Force's BATTLE NETWORK—you’ll lead the digital backbone of Major Release 2 (FY25–27). From architecture to integration, your work will help unify hardware (Nomad), software (Smith), and mission operations (Watch), delivering decisive information at mission speed.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead System Architecture & Modeling
* Drive development and sustainment of the system-of-systems model using SysML/CAMEO, DoDAF views, and ICDs, capturing the interfaces and dependencies across airborne platforms, SATCOM, cross-domain solutions, and the Digital Infrastructure.
* Ensure every requirement ties back to a mission thread and verification method, directly supporting CJADC2 goals and Operational Imperative #2.
Own Requirements and Configuration Management
* Gather and refine stakeholder needs using DOORS-NG (or equivalent), and lead change control through requirements reviews and configuration boards.
* Maintain an authoritative technical baseline and align digital artifacts through structured model/document workflows.
Guide Integration Efforts
* Collaborate with IPT leads to turn digital designs into integrated test environments and flight-ready systems.
* Triage and resolve technical challenges across power, data buses, cross-domain systems, and encryption boundaries—ensuring fielded systems perform as intended.
Align Verification with Mission Outcomes
* Work with Test and Flight-Test teams to define the VCRM, and promote early-stage (“shift-left”) validation for cybersecurity, safety, and performance.
* Support IATT packages and ensure technical readiness for airworthiness evaluations.
Manage Risk, Track Progress
* Maintain and report on the technical risk register; lead root-cause analyses and risk-mitigation strategies.
* Contribute to the Integrated Master Schedule and dashboard metrics tracking engineering maturity, timelines, and performance targets.
Mentor and Inspire
* Share your expertise with mid-level engineers through coaching and training in MBSE practices, SAFe/Agile workflows, and secure development pipelines.
* Promote a collaborative, model-centric engineering culture across cross-functional teams in a classified setting.
Basic Qualifications
* U.S. Citizenship and an active TS/SCI clearance
* B.S. in Systems, Electrical, Aerospace, or Computer Engineering (M.S. )
* 10+ years of experience in systems engineering within DoD C4ISR, avionics, or modular open systems environments
* Expertise with SysML tools like CAMEO/MagicDraw, Rhapsody, or equivalents
* Strong background in digital engineering, technical baseline management, and conducting SRR/PDR/CDR events
* Familiar with DoD data link standards, MIL-STD power systems, SATCOM, Type-1 encryption, and cybersecurity compliance (RMF/IA)
Qualifications
* INCOSE CSEP/ESEP or DAU ENG/SAE Level III
* Background with ABMS, CJADC2, or other airborne networking programs
* Familiarity with DevSecOps environments (e.g., Platform One, Iron Bank) and tools for model validation (ModelCenter, Cameo Simulation Toolkit)
* Experience presenting to senior leadership (SES/GO) and contributing to acquisition documentation (AS, SEP, SEMP, TEMP)
