Overview
Land Consultant roles (various levels) with WSP. Roles in Midlands, South and North teams based in modern city centre offices including Birmingham, London, Guildford, Cambridge, Basingstoke, Manchester and Leeds.
Responsibilities
* Lead a team of technical specialists to direct successful delivery of projects on time, within budget and to high standards
* Be a trusted advisor to clients (externally and internally) and manage relationships
* Advise on land issues including statutory processes to acquire land and land rights (e.g., major hybrid Bill, TWAO, DCO, CPO, Wayleaves)
* Lead on quality assurance of deliverables related to identification of land interests, negotiation of access to land for surveys, and acquisition of land rights for large-scale development projects
* Lead delivery of training on technical topics
* Develop efficient working practices and promote innovation to provide best-value services
* Ensure the team has the skills and resources to deliver successful projects and grow the business
* Promote and support adherence to WSP H&S procedures
* Manage, motivate, mentor and develop staff
* Contribute to delivery of the business strategy and to business development across energy, highways, rail, water, telecoms and renewable energy sectors
* Collaborate with other WSP disciplines to optimise service to clients
* Support the writing of bids/tenders to secure opportunities
* UK travel as required
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
* Successfully led a team of land consultants delivering land referencing or land assembly services on infrastructure projects to programme and budget
* Detailed knowledge of statutory order requirements (e.g., hybrid Bill, TWAO, DCO, CPO or Wayleaving) and understanding of the land and property industry
* Experience leading teams to deliver complex work and providing technical guidance to clients
* Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills with ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders
* Confidence to promote services internally and externally
* Highly motivated with a strong industry network
* Experience in rural environments, property, communities and agricultural working practices
* Experience working on infrastructure development schemes with multi-disciplinary teams
* Experience negotiating commercial terms with landowners and knowledge of wayleaves and easements
* Demonstrable experience reducing land risk for clients across project lifecycles
* Good business and IT skills
* A degree in Geography, Agriculture, Land and Estate Management or similar
* Chartership or professional membership advantageous
* A full driving licence is essential
Senior Land Consultant Responsibilities
* Manage project delivery of statutory processes for acquisition of land and land rights
* Project management of land projects to time and budget
* Ensure WSP H&S procedures for all site work
* Negotiate terms to secure land or land rights
* liaise with stakeholders, landowners, land agents, planning authorities, contractors and clients
* Collaborate with Land team and other WSP disciplines
* Lead and develop a team of early career professionals
* Contribute to business development and delivery of the business strategy
* UK travel as required
Land Consultant Role
* Land referencing activities, including online land registry searches, desktop research, questionnaire analysis and archival investigations
* Consult with landowners to confirm land and landownership details and agree access for surveys
* Explain proposed schemes, programme and impacts; document consultation notes
* Coordinate with land agents, auctioneers, legal representatives, planning authorities and clients
* Adhere to WSP H&S procedures for all site work
* Prepare Orders and relevant statutory processes to acquire land and land rights
* Negotiate Wayleaves and Heads of Terms to secure land or land rights
* Collaborate with Land team and other WSP teams in engineering, environmental, and planning disciplines
* Mentor and develop junior team members
* UK travel as required
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate (Qualifications)
* Degree or equivalent in Geography, Land and Estate Management, Agriculture or a relevant discipline
* Experience in delivering land referencing, land access, landowner engagement services on infrastructure projects
* Experience negotiating with landowners and knowledge of the acquisition of wayleaves/easements/servitudes
* Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams and delivering Orders and/or land consents
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to influence and negotiate
* Knowledge of rural environments and farming practices desirable
* Membership of a professional body advantageous
* A full driving licence is essential
