We are delighted to have partnered with a dynamic and rapidly growing Managed Service Provider (MSP) based in Glasgow, delivering cutting‑edge IT solutions and support to a diverse range of clients across industries. Their mission is to empower businesses by designing, implementing, and managing robust IT infrastructures.
We are looking to appoint a Head of IT Managed Services to lead a small team and work on multiple projects providing cutting‑edge IT solutions out of the Glasgow city centre office. This senior role is also a technically hands‑on position responsible for design, build, and implementation of infrastructure solutions.
Role Overview
As the Head of IT Managed Services, you will lead a small technical team, with overall responsibility for designing and implementing high‑performing, scalable, and secure IT infrastructures across the client base. You’ll leverage your expertise in the Microsoft technology stack and networking to design solutions that align with business goals, ensuring seamless operations and future scalability.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Design & Implementation
* Design IT infrastructures leveraging Microsoft technologies such as Azure, Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory, and SQL Server.
* Lead the creation of hybrid and cloud‑first solutions that balance security, performance, and scalability.
* Collaborate with internal teams and clients to assess business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
* Architect and implement Microsoft Azure environments.
* Design and manage hybrid environments connecting on‑premises infrastructure with Azure, ensuring secure and reliable integration.
Microsoft Ecosystem Expertise
* Configure, optimise, and manage Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and Intune.
* Develop identity and access management strategies using Entra ID.
Networking & Security
* Design and implement LAN/WAN, VPNs, VLANs, firewalls, and network security solutions to ensure high availability and security.
* Work with security teams to enforce compliance with cyber security standards, including implementing Zero Trust architecture.
* Proactively identify and resolve infrastructure performance issues, ensuring maximum up‑time and reliability.
* Conduct root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent re‑occurrence.
Required Skills & Experience
Core Microsoft Expertise
* Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 design, implementation, administration and configuration.
* Expertise in Windows Server, Active Directory, and Group Policy Management.
Networking & Security
* Hands‑on experience with firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, and secure network design.
* Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and LAN/WAN concepts.
* Familiarity with security standards such as ISO 27001, NIST, or CIS Controls.
* Proficiency with Hyper‑V, VMware, and related virtualisation technologies.
* Experience with SAN/NAS storage solutions and disaster recovery planning.
Project & Stakeholder Management
* Ability to engage effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
* Experience managing and delivering IT infrastructure projects on time and within scope.
