Summary:
The Laboratory Manager (LM) will take responsibility for the day-to-day operation and development of the UKAS accredited Laboratory and management of the quality system.
The LM will be involved in the setup of a new laboratory at the Stoke facility, transferring UKAS accreditation, standards and all other associated tasks in transferring the location of an existing accredited laboratory within the organisation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Management of health safety and environmental standards in a laboratory environment
• Visible leadership on HSE issues at all levels, including developing a proactive HSE improvement plan
• Carry out personal development interviews, create and implement personal development plans for all laboratory staff
• Day to day responsibility for all financial aspects of the laboratory including the assisting with the preparation of budgets, raising of purchase orders, invoice requisitions, procurement of equipment etc.
• Work closely with technical team to develop new services that support the business and bring added value to the NSI offerings
• Ensure high level of service to internal and external customers
• Work with senior management to create and implement an ambitious growth plan
• Actively participate in NSI technical forums related to Laboratory work to ensure strong group wide support and knowledge transfer
• Liaise with other NSI laboratories to ensure strategic alignment
• Ownership and management of the Quality System
• Monitoring of Lab P&L (in conjunction with Senior Management), controlling staff hours and overtime.
• Ensuring an efficient stock management system is in place and followed.
• Develop new product lines and help to market them internally and externally.
Required Skills/Qualifications (Essential):
• Theoretical & practical knowledge of the principles of laboratory testing
• Knowledge of Quality systems such as ISO 9000, ISO 14000 and ISO 17025
• Knowledge of industrial water / effluent treatment chemistry
• Experience in Auditing for a quality system
• Degree in chemistry or related science
• Experience of working in a laboratory environment
• Experience in quality systems management
• Experience in people management
Required Skills/Qualifications (Desirable):
• Experience of water, wastewater, cooling water and boiler water in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, food & beverage industries
• Experience of developing/marketing new services
• Knowledge of boiler and cooling system water chemistry
• Site based experience of water / effluent treatment plant operation
• Experience of working in an industrial operations / production environment
• P&L management
Working for us means:
The salary is between £45,000 & £50,000 per year, depending on your professional experience.
Hours of Work – 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Overtime – will be paid at 1.5. (Not applicable for Manager and Coordinator role)
Holidays – 25 days + 8 statutory days (pro-rata)
Probationary Period – 6 months.
Pension – Can join immediately or auto enrolled after 3 months - Employee 5% and Employer 5% via salary sacrifice.
Eligible to join Private Healthcare after successfully completing probation.
Enrolled in Group Income Protection and Death in Service (4 x basic salary) upon commencement of employment.
Notice – 1 Month during probation, increasing to 3 months thereafter.
