We have an opportunity for an experienced Medical Secretary to join our Clinical Support Services Team.
The post holder will be responsible for a range of duties including processing referrals to NHS and private health organisations, liaising with health professionals and patients, undertaking clinical document management, coding information onto patient records, processing medical report requests, and summarising new patient records. Responsibilities may evolve over time.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in communicating with patients and practice colleagues, and previous experience as a medical secretary in a primary or secondary care setting.
The practice may consider alternative hours but reserves the right to offer a 24-hour position if suitable.
Working hours are typically Monday & Tuesday 11:00 am - 5:30 pm, Thursday & Friday 9:00 am - 3:00 pm.

Job responsibilities
* Providing efficient typing and administrative support for GPs and health professionals.
* Making appointments, bookings, and liaising with hospitals and other agencies.
* Maintaining administrative and filing systems.
* Managing records, correspondence, and communication with external agencies.
* Performing departmental operational tasks using Emis Web and other systems.
* Supporting clinical duties such as cervical smear administration, disease management, and NHS health check recalls.
* Assisting with medical reports, minutes, and patient follow-up processes.
* Ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection policies.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* NVQ Business Administration or Medical Secretary Level 3 or equivalent.
* 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including Maths and English.
* Recognized Microsoft Office qualification or relevant experience.
* Relevant AMSPAR qualifications in health administration, medical secretarial work, and medical terminology.
Experience
* Experience in a medical secretary role within primary or secondary care.
* Knowledge of information governance and confidentiality protocols.
* Experience with clinical document management and coding in general practice.
Knowledge/Skills
* Understanding of customer service principles.
* Excellent keyboard, computer, and communication skills.
* Good time management and organizational skills.
* Experience with GP clinical systems such as Emis Web, Docman, Footfall, and Accurx.
