Job Title: Kinship Social Worker
Hourly Rate: £33.30
Work Pattern: Hybrid - Face-to-Face visits to carers
The Role
Provide support and promote permanence for the looked after children of Shropshire. The team aims to identify, assess, and support potential kinship foster carers through their journey of becoming approved foster carers, and to obtain Special Guardianship Orders where appropriate.
Key Requirements
* Assess and manage a caseload of kinship foster carers with the goal of supporting them to achieve permanence through Special Guardianship.
* Support and supervise carers as they work towards obtaining a Special Guardianship Order, ensuring positive, safe, and nurturing experiences for children and young people.
* Assist carers to provide a supportive environment for children and young people, and support connected families towards permanence.
* Contribute to the assessment, development, and training of kinship foster carers to care for children accommodated by the local authority, promoting support needed for permanence through SGO.
* Provide supervision and support to approved kinship foster carers, attending relevant meetings such as CLA reviews, transition meetings, care planning, and PEP meetings.
* Undertake kinship fostering assessments (Form C/K), viability assessments, special guardianship assessments, and other assessments within appropriate timeframes.
* Practice reflectively, restorative, and with a therapeutic trauma-informed approach.
* Participate in regular supervision with the team manager, reporting significant issues related to carers, children, and families.
* Be available out of normal office hours for carer forums, training, and recruitment support if required.
* Conduct visits and assessments out of county when necessary, which may include overnight stays.
Skills & Experience
* A qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
* Committed to supporting children, young people, and families, with resilience and dedication.
* UK driving license.
* Enthusiastic, positive, flexible, able to meet tight deadlines, and committed to team and foster carer development.
