About the Role
As Legal Counsel at OnBuy, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the legal framework of one of Europe’s fastest-growing online marketplaces. You won’t just manage contracts and compliance, you’ll be at the heart of our international expansion, supporting our entry into new markets and helping to navigate the complexities of cross-border e-commerce. Working closely with teams across the business and trusted external advisors, you’ll provide pragmatic legal guidance that empowers OnBuy’s ambitious growth, and ensures we’re always ready for major milestones like fundraising or IPO.
You’ll work closely with internal teams and external advisors to deliver pragmatic, commercial legal advice that enables growth while managing risk. From contract negotiations to global compliance, you’ll own key legal workstreams and help build scalable processes for the future.
What You’ll Be Doing
Contract Management & Negotiation
* Own and manage seller/customer T&Cs, supplier contracts, and partnership agreements.
* Lead negotiations with suppliers and partners, balancing legal rigour with commercial pragmatism.
* Build scalable systems for contract creation and management.
Legal Advisory & Risk Management
* Provide clear, actionable legal advice across departments.
* Monitor legal developments and ensure OnBuy stays ahead of regulatory changes.
* Manage external counsel relationships and escalate matters when needed.
* Maintain internal policies and ensure cross-border compliance.
* Keep OnBuy “due diligence ready” for fundraising and IPO preparation.
Intellectual Property & Governance
* Oversee trademark registrations and global brand protection.
* Manage company secretarial duties and statutory compliance.
Strategic Legal Projects
* Lead legal workstreams for international expansion, regulatory shifts, and strategic initiatives.
Requirements
About You
You’ll bring:
* UK-qualified solicitor or barrister (or equivalent jurisdiction).
* 4+ years post-qualification experience, including at least 1 year in-house.
* Strong background in commercial law, contract drafting, and negotiation.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to juggle multiple priorities and deliver under pressure.
Bonus if you have:
* Experience in e-commerce, marketplaces, tech, or international business.
* A proactive mindset and comfort using emerging tech (including AI) to streamline legal workflows.

Benefits
The salary on offer for this role is up to £70,000-£80,000 per annum, depending on experience.
