Workgroup makes events for mega senior company execs in the UK. Think Chief Legal Officers, CFOs, head marketers, or Heads of HR. We hate the old way of doing events - endless one-way presentations and sales pitches - so weve done away with all that (more on this in our interview).
For now, were a super small team (just 8 of us) and now that weve smashed events for General Counsel (Legal), Chief People Officers (HR) and CMOs (Marketing) - we organise the UKs biggest event series for General Counsel - were looking for someone to take ownership of our two existing Northern legal event series, Workgroup Legal Leeds and Workgroup Legal Manchester.
đ Whats the job?
This is a full-time remote role with flexible working hours for an âEvent Producerâ. However, you dont need experience in organising events, as our model is very different to normal conference production companies.
Youâll need to be based in the North, within an hour of Leeds and Manchester as this role will require frequent travel into both cities.
Youâll be responsible for speaking to the most senior executives from the UKs biggest companies, and convincing them to help you with your event. Youll put this together in an agenda, write human and edgy copy, and then sell and market the thing through LinkedIn, MailChimp, our website, and your personality!
đ What are the essential qualities and experiences that will make me great at this job?
* đCharisma! Your face will be the brand of your event, so being able to confidently build personal relationships with your speakers and attendees - who will all be super senior professionals - is a big deal. And, our tone of voice is quirky and edgy, so you will need to be too. BONUS POINTS if you have experience speaking with super senior people. MORE BONUS POINTS if you do have event experience. Its not essential, but knowing how it works can help!
* âïž A word-wielder! Youâre a dab hand when a penâs in it. Youâre a fan of words, and manipulate them deftly. Youâre funny, creative, and certainly not corporate. BONUS POINTS if you can point to specific creative things which youâve written or created.
* đ€Organisation! There are tonnes of moving pieces and things you need to keep track of with events, mostly keeping detailed spreadsheets of who you emailed when, and which GC has a cat called Charles đș. BONUS POINTS if youre a dab-hand at Excel/Sheets, or if you know a lawyer with a cat called Charles.
* đȘSelf-motivated/ Autonomous! We work very flexible hours at Workgroup, meaning youâll occasionally get emails from the team at 1am, but some people will only clock on at 12pm. We believe in fitting work around your life, not visa versa but this requires HUGE amounts of time management and self-motivation. BONUS POINTS if you can demonstrate remote working experience!
* đȘResilience! We have to find companies to sponsor our events, and get speakers to agree to spend their precious time at your event, but you will get rejected. Being able to take that in your stride is a must! BONUS POINTS if⊠I dont know⊠you do chair yoga or something? đ§âïž
* đAmbition! Youâre a self-starter who wants to be the best, with a hunger to take on the world. BONUS POINTS if you can point to specific things that set you apart personally, or show off what youâre capable of. Maybe youâve trekked Iran, set up your own business, or even boxed a kangaroo đŠđ„
* đ«Collaboration! Your success is ours, and vice versa. Itâs important that youâre both a support system and open to giving and receiving feedback. Since we also work at each otherâs events, youâll sometimes need to care as much about GCs/CMOs/HRDs as you do CFOs. BONUS POINTS if you can share some Friday Fun ideas or proven examples of putting others agendas first!
đ· How much will you pay me? And how will I work?
* The salary is ÂŁ28,000, with additional bonus and commission structures.
* 35 hours a week, but entirely flexible. Work late, work early, or double down on Wednesdays, up to you.
* Work from wherever including abroad for up to 3 months in a year (within a reasonable time difference).
* You must however live in the north of the UK (within an hour of Manchester and Leeds) and be prepared to travel to our events up and down the country.
* 28 days paid annual leave, including bank holidays. Additional days off for birthdays, Christmas week, etc.
* We are outputs-focussed, which means we donât monitor how, where or when you work, only on what you achieve.
