An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the nurse led Dorset Bowel Cancer Screening Centre. You will join a highly skilled, motivated team delivering Bowel Cancer population screening to Dorset. Bowel Cancer Screening is offered to every Dorset resident from the ages of fifty years and sevent y five years. E nab ling the early detection and treatment of colorectal cancers. Successful candidates will be employed by University Hospital s Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Poole Hospital site. There will be an expectation that you travel to four other screening sites within Dorset .
Poole town boasts a bustling quay, some of the best beaches in England and a stunning natural harbor. From Poole there is easy access to the Dorset countryside, renowned for its areas of outstanding natural beauty and the spectacular Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, ideal for sports and outdoor activities. We have excellent schools, and top-rated family attractions. Our town centre location means that we are conveniently situated for public transport. The bus and mainline train stations are both within easy walking distance, as are the Lighthouse Arts Centre, Poole Park and high street shops.
The successful candidate will provide expert knowledge, high quality care and psychological support to Dorset Bowel C ancer Screening subjects and their families.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will support subjects through the screening pathway including assessing subjects fitness for colonoscopy. Supporting subjects to make informed choices, delivering healthy life style advice. Reviewing and actioning investigation results including histopathology. Delivering investigation results and ensuring subjects outcomes are correct.
An essential requirement is to attend the Bowel Cancer Specialist Practitioner Course and to undertake further training to enable the successful candidate to fulfil the SSP requirements.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Actively and routinely participating in clinical and data audits within the programme
Working collaboratively with the Programme Hub, Screening Centre Director, Programme Manager
Lead Nurse and other SSPs.
Co-ordinating and providing the highest standard of care from the BCSP centre to address the needs
of individuals arising as a consequence of bowel cancer screening.
Assessing patients’ care needs, at all six sites (and any other as shall be deemed necessary to meet
requirements of the screening populations, e.g. prisons) within the Dorset BCSP, and the
development, implementation and evaluation of programs of care for colorectal investigation.
Acting as the patient’s advocate supporting them throughout all stages of the screening process.
Participate in health promotion activities with local health promotion services to ensure equal access to
healthcare and information across all sections of society.
Populating and maintaining the local Bowel Screening Programme database.

Primary Health services Support the provision of telephone helpline services run from the hub by resolving queries referred by them to the screening centre Provide advice, information and support for those making direct contact with the screening centre. Establish effective links with local colorectal cancer multidisciplinary teams in order to ensure that: · Where cancer is detected, there is a timely presentation and transfer of patients to the MDT at location agreed with patient. · Patient records for the screening services are completed to include data on treatment, staging and outcomes provided by the MDT. Promote good working relationships and collaborative working with the Inter-professional team, within the unit, Trust and other BCSP partner sites. Liaise with other health care professionals regarding the needs of patients and implement appropriate action. Ability to communicate effectively in a sensitive and appropriate manner with patients and carers when breaking bad news and providing psychological support on diagnosis and treatment.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Registration on Part 1 NMC Register (RGN or RN Adult)
* Comprehensive applied Anatomy and Physiology for relevant area
* Degree in relevant subject
* LJMU Specialist Screening Practitioner module at either level 6 or 7
* Specialist knowledge of national and local agenda on improving cancer services, specifically colorectal cancer, endoscopic procedures, valid consent and withdrawal of consent
Experience
* Minimum 2 years clinical experience within an acute field
* Significant relevant post-registration education and experience
* Evidence of continuing professional and academic development
* Advanced communication skills ‘Breaking bad news, Nurse have I got cancer’ including – written verbal and non-verbal including presentation skills, communicating to mixed abilities and communicating complex information
* Experience as a Specialist Screening Practitioner within the BCSP
* Minimum 2 years clinical experience within colorectal/gastroenterology/endoscopy
* Experience of quality assurance, audit and research
* Experience of autonomous practice
* Ability to take informed consent for endoscopic procedures
Skills
* NMC standards and limitations of professional practice
* Evidence of IT skills
* Knowledge of standards setting and Clinical Governance
* Experience with use of variety of databases
