Purpose of The Post

To work in our Award Winning Early Education Centre. To support our staff team in providing a creative and language rich environment with quality interactions for children aged 2 to 5. This is a 3-month position with the possibility of extension.


Main Duties of The Post

* To be part of our Early Years Team providing a purposeful, stimulating environment rich in learning opportunities, both indoors and outdoors.
* To support the planning, development and delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage in order to meet all learning interests and needs of children, extending them where necessary. To contribute to the review and further development of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
* To assist in monitoring and evaluating children's learning through a range of assessment and monitoring strategies. To contribute to the setting and review of Learning and Development Plan (LDP) targets in addition to developmental action plans.
* To risk assess activities.
* To be responsible for the general safety and welfare of the children in your care.
* To recognise and promote the rights of each child and to implement non-violent and anti-discriminatory practices.
* To use professional knowledge of the individual and diverse ways that children learn and develop, to meet their differing needs. To establish positive and sensitive relationships with children. To act as a role model and set achievable expectations.
* To meet the physical needs of children, encouraging good standards of personal hygiene, whilst promoting independence.
* To provide support for the children's emotional and social needs by implementing the principles of positive behaviour as promoted in our Behaviour Management Policy.
* To encourage children to interact and work co-operatively with others.
* To be responsible for organising the environment inside and outside to ensure that resources and equipment are available and appropriate to meet the needs of the individual children in the group. These activities will take into account children's abilities, interests, language and cultural backgrounds.
* To ensure that equipment is safely maintained and stored appropriately, and any defects reported to the Lead Early Years Officer.
* To report any accidents/incidents which may happen to the children whilst they are in the care of The Greenhouse Project, as well as any injuries they may present with or concerns you may have regarding the welfare of children attending the Early Education sessions, to the Lead Early Years Officer.
* To develop positive and sensitive relationships with parents and carers to support their role in children's learning. To provide constructive feedback on children's progress/achievement, on a day-to-day basis or through parent meetings.
* To effectively communicate and provide objective and accurate feedback and reports on children's achievements, progress and related matters to other childcare professionals as appropriate.
* To provide snacks for the children who attend Early Education sessions.
* To attend local network meetings and training courses if appropriate.
* To attend regular supervision meetings with your line manager.
* To maintain confidentiality of service users of the Greenhouse Project.
* To share responsibility for administering First Aid with other first aiders (if appropriate).
* To be proactive in the continuation of your own learning to improve the outcomes for children and their families.
* To have a clear knowledge of and adhere to all Health and Safety Regulations.
* To comply and assist with the development of policies and procedures.
* To understand, support and promote the philosophical and holistic framework of the Greenhouse Project.
* To undertake any other duties deemed to be appropriate by the Lead Early Education Officer or Project Manager.


Person Specification


Experience

* Essential Experience of working with children aged 2 - 5 years.
* Experience of working within a diverse ethnic community, and with families where English is an additional language.
* Evidence of partnership working with families and professionals.


Education / Training Qualifications

* Essential An Early Years NVQ level 2 or 3 or equivalent.
* Desirable A recent First Aid qualification.
* Basic Food and Hygiene Certificate
* Recent safeguarding


Specialist Knowledge

* Essential Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
* Knowledge of OFSTED Standards.
* The ability to demonstrate an up to date knowledge of current thinking and development in early years.
* Awareness of planning/record keeping and Key Worker systems.
* Awareness of Health and Safety and Risk Assessments.


Skills and Abilities

* Essential An in depth understanding of Equal Opportunities and the ability to challenge discrimination in a way which encourages good practice.
* Ability to communicate confidently with a wide range of people.
* Good organisational skills.
* Ability to prioritise work.
* Ability to feedback information in the form of written reports.
* The motivation to work on own initiative.
* Able to work collaboratively with The Greenhouse Project's staff, parents and other stakeholders from within the community.
* To be able to promote our Early Education Centre in a positive and professional manner.


Terms and Conditions

* Hours of Work: 38 weeks School term time plus 1 additional week and 5.6 weeks Annual Leave.
* Part time: Mon - Fri 12.30 pm - 4.00 pm
* Pay: 12.21 per hour NVQ level 2
* 12.71 per hour NVQ level 3
* Wages are paid across 12 months
* Place of Work: The Greenhouse Project, Tiber Site, Lodge Lane Liverpool L8 0TP.
