Learner Engagement Officer (Term Time)
Hours: 37 hours per week, 40 weeks per annum

Role description: Chelmsford College is seeking a compassionate and proactive Learner Engagement Officer to join our team. In this role, you’ll be the first point of contact for learners in need of support, providing guidance, identifying barriers to learning, and working collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies to ensure learners receive the right help at the right time. You’ll play a visible role on campus, engaging with students, supporting care‑experienced and vulnerable learners, and using data to create effective support plans that improve attendance, wellbeing, engagement, and retention.
Responsibilities
* First point of contact for learners needing support
* Provide guidance, identify and address barriers to learning
* Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to secure appropriate help for learners
* Engage with students on campus, including care‑experienced and vulnerable learners
* Use data to develop support plans that enhance attendance, wellbeing, engagement, and retention
* Work across campuses as required to meet student needs
Qualifications
* Experience supporting young people and monitoring attendance
* Strong communication and organisational skills
* Good understanding of the wider issues affecting learners in Further Education
* Ability to work sensitively and professionally in a fast‑paced environment
Additional Information
The post is mainly based at the Princes Road campus but requires staff to work between campuses to meet student needs. It is 37 hours per week for 40 weeks per year, covering term time plus additional weeks for enrolment and CPD activities.
