Position Summary:
The Sr. Controls Engineer designs and implements PLC-based control systems for automated and semi-automated production equipment. Responsibilities include PLC programming, electrical cabinet design, sourcing hardware, building electrical panels, and integrating robots for assembly and machining. Support for existing equipment to ensure factory throughput is also required.
Key Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with mechanical engineers to develop concepts, sequences, and hardware specifications.
* Manage multiple projects, coordinate hardware delivery, and document progress.
* Create detailed documentation for PLC and robotic programs, I/O lists, BOMs, and schematics.
* Wire and assemble electrical panels, cabinets, and HMI displays; wire machinery.
* Debug control systems to meet specifications, NFPA 79, and OSHA standards.
* Troubleshoot production equipment, including automated systems and robotics.
* Apply sensor, vision, and fail-safe controls to resolve quality issues.
* Communicate project status and troubleshooting updates to management and production teams.
* Generate machine specifications for turnkey systems.
* Research new automation technologies to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
* Estimate controls costs for cost-saving initiatives.
* Mentor junior engineers and lead continuous improvement projects.
* Participate in 5S activities and maintain a safe, organized workspace.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related field, with 7-10 years of experience.
* Proficiency with PLC software such as Allen-Bradley and Mitsubishi.
* Strong experience and judgment to accomplish goals.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools like monday.com.
* Ability to lead multiple projects, work in a team, and produce high-quality work.
* Excellent documentation and communication skills.
* Deep knowledge of servo systems, sensors, HMI, hydraulics, pneumatics, and safety standards.
* CAD skills for electrical schematics and panel layouts.
* Creative problem-solving skills and autonomy.
Working Conditions:
* Prolonged desk work and computer use.
* Physical ability to reach, lift up to 25 pounds, and wear PPE as required.
