Legal Counsel Job purpose: Act as in-house legal adviser working with the Senior Legal Advisers and provide support to the Head of Legal Services. Provide high quality specialist legal advice, assistance and representation to the business. Assist in identifying and minimising legal, corporate and commercial risks. Take on additional tasks as required by Head of Legal. Key Accountabilities: Provide accurate, well researched and clearly expressed written and oral legal advice in a wide range of corporate, commercial and strategic policy areas. Provide accurate and concisely drafted legal advice and agreements, and internal reports. Follow processes to provide compliance support. Assist with providing timely, effective and active case management of corporate litigation Assisting with the renewal of the business' professional indemnity and director and officers' insurance policies. Support the management and protection of the intellectual property portfolio. Draft correspondence on complex and sensitive matters. Actively demonstrate a solutions-focused awareness and an understanding of major issues affecting the solicitors' business objectives and priorities, and corporate compliance issues. Knowledge, skills and experience Essential: A qualified solicitor (NQ to 3 years PQE) or barrister with a current practising certificate. Experience of working as a lawyer in the private, public or voluntary sectors, including strategic management of complex legal and commercial issues. Demonstrable knowledge of at least two of the following (with a desire and commitment to developing knowledge and skills in the areas below that are less familiar): - Corporate and commercial law - Contract law - Intellectual property law - Internal and external stakeholder support and management. Excellent analytical and drafting skills and ability, and a high level of attention to detail. Very good oral and written communication skills. Ability to influence others, command respect and create a good first impression. Ability to take independent responsibility for workloads, plan and prioritise to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
