Year in Industry Opportunity: Associate Digital Content Developer
We’re offering a 12-month paid placement within our Engineering team at Skipton Building Society. This role is for students on a sandwich degree who want hands-on experience in digital content and web development.
You don’t need to know financial services or agile working styles - we’ll teach you everything you need. What matters most is your curiosity, your attention to detail, and your passion for creating great digital experiences.
Who Are We?
Not just another building society. Not just another job.
We're the fourth biggest building society in the UK and what makes us a bit different is that we're a mutual organisation. We don't have shareholders; we're owned by our members.
Our colleagues say Skipton's a great place to work, and you could be one of them, bringing with you new ideas on how we can keep customers at the heart of what we do.
Whatever your background, and whatever your goals, we'll help you take the next step towards a better future.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll be part of the team that keeps Skipton’s websites up to date, accurate and customer friendly. Expect to:
1. Build and update webpages using our Content Management System
2. Work with designers, marketers and product teams to bring content ideas to life
3. Help make sure our content is clear, compliant and easy to use
4. Manage incoming requests and help solve content-related issues
5. Learn how digital teams work together in agile environments
6. Share ideas to improve how we do things
Who You’ll Work With
You’ll be supported by a friendly team of experienced Content Developers and collaborate with:
7. UX Designers – to shape customer journeys and page layouts
8. Marketing – to deliver campaigns across our websites
9. Product Teams – to publish savings and mortgage content on time
10. Engineers and Developers – to raise and resolve technical requests
11. User Acceptance Testing (UAT) – to make sure content is accurate before it goes live
12. Financial Promotions – to ensure our content meets regulatory standards
What We’re Looking For
13. A keen interest in digital content, websites or user experience
14. Strong written and verbal communication skills
15. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
16. A proactive attitude and willingness to learn new tools
17. Confidence working independently and asking for help when needed
18. Basic understanding of web technologies
19. Currently enrolled in a relevant sandwich degree
What You’ll Gain
20. Hands-on experience with our Content Management System
21. Exposure to digital workflows and agile ways of working
22. A chance to work in a real tech team and build your CV
23. Insight into financial services and how digital content supports customers
24. Opportunities to shape how people experience Skipton online
25. The chance to work with a Performance Manager on your personal development while in placement
Our Values
We’re looking for someone who:
26. Works well with others
27. Cares about customer needs
28. Looks for ways to improve
This is a brilliant opportunity to kickstart your career in digital and tech. If you’re curious, organised, and ready to learn - we’d love to hear from you.
Here's what one of our previous interns Kadie Dignam had to say about her time with us:
"I was the intern in 2021, where I first learnt many valuable workplace skills such as team work, adaptability and professionalism. These skills not only supported my final year at university, but were used within my application to become a permanent Associate Digital Content Developer in 2023. Since then, I have progressed to senior level in the team, whereby I have attained many more skills and experience such as problem solving, leadership and software proficiency. The internship was a pivotal stepping stone not just into the industry, but into a career I’ve grown proud of."
