As a result, alongside several consortium partners, Balfour Beatty has been selected by BP (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage. This project is a key driver in making Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.
Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic and experienced Environmental Sustainability Adviser to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside project, based at our new site in Redcar, Cleveland on Teesside.
What you’ll be doing
* Providing advice and support to operational teams on environmental matters.
* Maintaining relationships with regulators, clients, and subcontractors.
* Engaging with local stakeholders.
* Investigating and reporting incidents to the Environment and Sustainability Manager.
* Ensuring on-site compliance with environmental legislation and coaching teams on controls and mitigations.
* Supporting sustainability activities for the project.
* Delivering value-adding environmental projects and ecological enhancements.
* Liaising with clients, regulatory bodies, and subcontractors on environmental management and sustainability issues.
* Producing and updating environmental management plans and risk assessments.
* Providing on-site advice regarding environmental management, compliance, and project-specific mitigation measures, including pollution control and ecology protection.
* Investigating environmental incidents and supporting the implementation of controls to prevent recurrence.
* Ensuring the implementation of environmental management systems on project sites.
* Staying updated on standards and legislation, recommending changes to systems and processes as needed.
* Delivering environmental training, toolbox talks, and onsite coaching.
* Producing reports such as case studies, environmental performance, KPI reports, and lessons learned.
* Supporting and conducting audit and assurance activities, including facilitating external audits.
* Performing regular compliance inspections of site works.
* Assisting in developing and producing KPIs and management reports.
* Performing other duties as required.
Who we’re looking for
* Strong knowledge of environmental management and sustainability issues.
* Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field.
* Practical experience with environmental legislation, ecology mitigation, licenses, and consent applications.
* Understanding of ecological matters and environmental law.
* Full driver’s license and flexibility to travel.
* Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
* Good interpersonal skills.
* Master’s degree in a relevant field.
* PIEMA or IEMA Membership.
