Role details
A welcoming mainstream primary school in Thornton is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils who need help regulating emotions, managing behaviour, and building confidence. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a child’s life while developing your own skills in a supportive setting.
Responsibilities
* Delivering tailored interventions to support emotional literacy, social skills, and behaviour regulation
* Supporting pupils during lessons, transitions, and break times to maintain a calm and structured environment
* Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to implement EHCP targets
* Using trauma-informed and restorative approaches to build trust and resilience
* Encouraging positive relationships and helping pupils engage with learning
Qualifications
* Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or relevant experience in SEMH support)
* Experience working with children with SEMH needs (in education, care, or youth settings)
* A calm, nurturing, and patient approach
* Strong communication and de-escalation skills
* Understanding of behaviour support strategies and safeguarding practices
