About the Role
As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll be the go-to expert for all things electrical on site — but your mechanical know-how will also come into play. With a strong electrical bias, you'll support production lines, minimise downtime, and work closely with both the engineering and operations teams to deliver efficient, reliable, and compliant performance across the facility.
Duties
* Lead on Mechanical maintenance, fault-finding, and diagnostics across production equipment.
* Carry out both reactive and preventative maintenance to minimise production downtime.
* Support electrical repairs and work collaboratively with multi-skilled engineers.
* Contribute to continuous improvement projects around equipment reliability, safety, and performance.
* Ensure all electrical systems and installations comply with regulatory and safety standards.
* Work closely with production teams to support fast turnaround on line changeovers and setups.
* Keep accurate maintenance logs, assist with spare parts inventory, and support audit readiness.
* Contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical documentation.
Skills
Required Skills
* Time-served or formally qualified in Mechanical engineering (NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC/HND or equivalent).
* Strong hands-on experience with production machinery – electrical bias, but mechanically capable.
* Excellent fault-finding skills on PLCs, drives, motors, panels, and industrial control systems.
* Good understanding of health & safety regulations and safe working practices.
* Proactive, adaptable, and calm under pressure – a true team player.
* FMCG or food industry experience is a strong advantage, but not essential.
Preferred Skills
* Knowledge of production processes, quality systems, and health & safety practices.
* Able to work collaboratively across shifts and departments.
