Deputy General Manager - Diagnostics Collaborative

Are you an experienced and forward‑thinking leader seeking an opportunity to make a significant impact on healthcare services? We are looking for an exceptional Deputy General Manager to join our NHS Trust located in the surroundings of the Lake District. As a member of our leadership team, you will play a vital role in delivering outstanding performance, quality, and safety of services within the portfolio of services you oversee within the Diagnostics Collaborative. This role offers an incredible chance to work closely with a Triumvirate leadership team consisting of the General Manager, Governance Lead and Collaborative Chair to continue to shape healthcare services within the Trust.

In this role, you will hold an operational and strategic leadership position, overseeing development and delivery of service strategy and objectives of a particular group of services within the Collaborative. Working closely with the Collaborative, you will be responsible for delivering operational performance targets, enhancing the quality of services provided and ensuring financial balance.

You will be responsible for the planning and organisation of a range of complex activities and associated services, working with other services and areas to achieve success. This role involves providing effective leadership and management within teams, ensuring that services are supported to maintain the highest standards and performance requirements.


Main duties of the job

* Have overall responsibility for the effective operational management of diagnostic services across several sites within the Collaborative.
* Be responsible for the delivery of targets and performance measures against the national constitutional standards.
* Provide leadership in the development of clinical and support services.
* Be the lead manager for a major area of activity, interpreting corporate and national policies.
* Actively support the General Manager and contribute to the development and delivery of service strategy and objectives.
* Actively support the achievement of objectives within both the corporate and Collaborative agenda.
* Effectively manage numerous budgets and resources whilst maintaining a high level of patient care.
* Participate in any on‑call arrangement or shift system which is associated with this role outside of normal working hours, in order to fulfil the requirements of the Trust. These arrangements may vary from time to time depending upon Trust requirements in the best interests in service delivery.
* The post holder will be expected to work on multiple sites.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Professional qualification to Masters level or equivalent professional education in a relevant field
* Training in leadership and management skills in an NHS setting


Experience

* Professional knowledge plus additional specialist, management knowledge
* Considerable experience and knowledge with operational service management
* Leadership skills gained through previous experience and/or in‑house training
* Knowledge of statutory and legal frameworks within health and social Care
* Knowledge of Business Planning processes
* Experience as a senior manager including multi‑disciplinary team management
* Developing effective networks and partnerships and stakeholder engagement
* Evidence of delivery and a track record of success
* Experience of delivering significant change within a clinical environment.
* Training in Change management
* Knowledge of the area of the Collaborative
* Experience of the area of the Collaborative
* Experience in leading investigations


Knowledge

* Highly developed operational management knowledge acquired through a combination of in‑depth experience and post‑graduate study
* Knowledge of change management and strategies and experience of implementing change
* Knowledge of modernisation techniques such as capacity and demand studies
* Knowledge of NHS agenda and impact on service
* Knowledge of Trust wide hospitals, wards, departments, services, policies and procedures gained through shadowing peers and induction into on‑call duties
* Equality impact assessments
* Ability to effectively analyse situations and information to inform decisions including analysing data and statistics and other available information
* Experience of leading, coordinating and organising teams
* Experience of managing, monitoring and controlling budgets
* Experience and achievement in meeting performance targets
* Communication / presentation skills – able to engage and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders
* Computer literate for a range of software packages including word, excel, PowerPoint
* Ability to network and build effective and co‑operative working relationships across organisational and professional boundaries
* Planning and organisational skills including development and implementing strategic service and business planning
* Judgement and analytical skills required to deal with clinical and non‑clinical services
* Resilient, able to challenge as well as deal with challenge
* Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

Other Requirements

* Ability to travel independently across Cumbria.
* Participate in any on‑call arrangement or shift system on site which is associated with this role, in order to fulfil the requirements of the base service and also the wider Trust. These arrangements may vary from time to time depending upon Trust requirements in the best interests in service delivery.
* Post holder will be expected to work across multiple sites
* Driving licence


Salary

£66,582 to £77,368 a year (Per Annum Pro Rata)
