Job Overview
We are recruiting for a Software Asset Manager (SAM). This role sits at the intersection of IT, Finance, and Procurement and is responsible for the end‑to‑end lifecycle management of our software portfolio. The ideal candidate is a detail‑oriented professional who can bridge the gap between technical infrastructure and commercial accountability.
Responsibilities
1. Lifecycle & Inventory Management
* Maintain a centralized, accurate repository of all software licenses, entitlements, and deployments.
* Track and manage software renewals, ensuring zero lapse in critical services while proactively identifying consolidation opportunities.
* Monitor software usage patterns to identify “shelfware” (unused licenses) and re‑harvest those assets to reduce unnecessary spending.
2. Compliance & Risk Mitigation
* Perform internal audits to ensure the organization is compliant with Software License Agreements (SLAs).
* Prepare documentation and lead the response for formal vendor audits.
* Identify and mitigate risks associated with unauthorized software (Shadow IT).
3. Financial & Commercial Stewardship
* Collaborate with Finance to track software spend against the annual budget and provide data‑driven forecasting for future requirements.
* Support Procurement during contract negotiations by providing accurate usage data and technical requirements.
* Analyze licensing models (e.g., SaaS, Perpetual, Core‑based, User‑based) to recommend the most cost‑effective options.
4. Technical Advisory
* Maintain a high‑level understanding of the IT ecosystem (servers, cloud instances, databases, and networking) to accurately track how software is deployed across the environment.
* Advise stakeholders on the licensing implications of infrastructure changes (e.g., moving a database from on‑premise to the cloud).
Qualifications
* Proven experience managing complex asset registries or inventories.
* High‑level understanding of IT infrastructure, including the differences between physical and virtual servers, cloud environments, and database structures.
* Ability to manipulate large datasets (e.g., Excel or a SAM tool) to find discrepancies or trends.
* Experience with budgeting, cost‑benefit analysis, or basic accounting principles.
* Ability to read and interpret complex legal and commercial terms in software contracts.
* Natural inclination toward accuracy.
* Ability to explain technical licensing constraints to non‑technical business leaders.
* Experience with SAM tools (e.g., Flexera, ServiceNow, or similar).
* Knowledge of major vendor licensing models (Microsoft, Oracle, AWS, or Adobe).
* CSAM (Certified Software Asset Manager) or similar certification.
Benefits
* Health, dental, and vision insurance.
* Paid time off and holidays.
* Retirement benefits (including 401(k) matching).
* Educational reimbursement.
* Parental leave.
* Employee stock purchase plan.
* Tax‑saving options.
* Disability and life insurance.
* Pet insurance.
UK employees also receive free single medical cover, a digital GP service, enhanced parental leave pay, free membership of employee assistance programmes, and reimbursement toward professional development and memberships.
