Sanctuary Personnel is recruiting an experienced Head of Imaging (Band 8d) to provide senior operational leadership across Imaging Services within a busy, growing NHS environment in Milton Keynes. This is a key interim leadership role, covering the remaining period following a substantive appointment, and offers the opportunity to make a real impact across a multi-modality imaging service.
This role is ideal for a senior radiology professional with proven experience managing Imaging Services at a strategic and operational level.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide full operational oversight across Imaging Services, ensuring safe, effective, and high-quality service delivery
* Line manage senior leaders (x3) with responsibility for day-to-day service delivery and performance
* Lead on operational performance targets, including DM01, DM02, and 2WW pathways
* Review existing imaging processes, identify gaps, and implement service improvements and change solutions
* Act as a subject matter expert in radiology and imaging, providing senior-level guidance and advice to clinical and operational teams
* Support service delivery across a medium-sized District General Hospital (DGH) and multiple community-based imaging sites
* Ensure imaging services meet national standards, governance requirements, and patient access targets
Service Overview
The Imaging Department supports a growing healthcare system and includes:
* CT: 3 scanners (all on-site)
* MRI: 2 scanners on-site, plus additional MRI provision within the community
* Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs):
* Two Milton Keynes locations delivering DEXA, NOUS, and MRI
* Whitehouse Park: MRI and NOUS (two rooms)
* Lloyds Court: 1 x DEXA room and 2 x NOUS rooms
* National Screening Programmes: Breast Screening and Lung Screening
* Professional background in Radiology / Medical Imaging
* Significant experience managing Imaging Services within a healthcare organisation
* Proven leadership at a senior level, including line management of senior staff
* Strong understanding of NHS imaging performance targets, operational delivery, and service improvement
* Experience working across acute and community imaging services
* Ability to lead change, improve pathways, and maintain high standards under operational pressure
