Grade UE07: £40,497 to £48,149 per annum, pro-rata if part time

CAHSS / Moray House School of Education and Sport

Full-time: 35 hours per week

Fixed term: 21 months, from 1 September 2025 to to 30 June 2027

We are looking for a Research Associate to join the DFG-funded project "Instability After Adverse Parental Life-Course Events and Educational Inequality." This post is based at the Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh.

The Opportunity:

The successful candidate will work closely with Dr Kristina Lindemann, the Principal Investigator, to prepare and analyse longitudinal data sources such as the German Socio-Economic Panel and the German Family Panel. The role will involve using advanced statistical methods to explore how factors like income instability, residential mobility, and high-conflict parental relationships may affect children's success in education. The post-holder will also contribute actively to the preparation and writing of research articles for submission to high-quality, peer-reviewed journals.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week). We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. The post will be available from September 2025 to June 2027.

The salary for this post is £40,497 to £48,149 per annum.

Your skills and attributes for success:

1. A PhD (or near completion) in a relevant social science discipline, such as sociology, demography, education, social policy, or economics.
2. Strong quantitative research skills and experience working with quantitative data.
3. Proficiency in statistical software, particularly Stata or R.
4. Ability to plan and manage research activities both independently and as part of a team.
5. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Fluent in written and spoken English.
