To work as a mammographer to a high professional standard producing quality mammograms while adhering to time constraints and ensuring a positive experience for the client to encourage re-attendance or to work towards gaining a postgraduate certificate in Mammography.
Responsibilities include undertaking complex and highly specialised techniques such as stereotactic equipment for wire localisations, core biopsy, and VABs. Effective communication with clients and patients is essential to ensure understanding of the screening or symptomatic pathway.
Checking patient details prior to examination, ensuring accuracy on request forms/computer, and justifying requests in accordance with Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR(ME)R). Proper labelling of images and patient care are also key responsibilities.
Additional duties involve communicating delays, participating in work duties flexibly, ensuring safety, reporting incidents, and maintaining knowledge of NHSBSP guidelines and quality standards.
Monitoring image quality, participating in peer reviews, conducting performance tests, and interpreting QA results are important for maintaining technical standards.
The role includes contributing to professional development, assisting in training, maintaining CPD, and upholding HCPC registration and conduct standards. Public education on screening benefits is also encouraged.
