Role Purpose: The primary purpose of the Director of Build is to act as a trusted advisor to the COO, providing support and advice in the successful delivery of the Wildanet Build plan, for milestones, safety culture, ESG requirements, budget, quality and people management.

The role holder is accountable for the delivery of the build strategy and delivery of the network build plan (financial/impact) to include directing and delivering the plan using the existing policies and procedures that ensure the delivery of a best-in-class fibre network build, this will include leading the planning, design and delivery teams that will provide infrastructure solutions for customers and commissioners on time, to cost and of quality.

Main Responsibilities: The Director of Build responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Leading a multi-disciplinary team of project managers and engineers (including in-house and subcontractors) to design, build and deliver a world-class fibre network.
Taking ownership of, and leading, day-to-day business operations and performance, building a highly inclusive working environment and culture, enabling people to thrive and perform at their best.
Acting as the Programme Director across 30+ builds running in parallel, managing key deliverables and outcomes, the role holder is accountable for delivering programmes to budget and managing quality.
Ensuring that all build activity is conducted in accordance with all relevant governance and legislative requirements.
Working closely with the COO and wider C Suite in delivering and driving the organisational vision and operational strategy as agreed within the business plan.
Working with the COO and CFO to set and review goals for performance and growth and ensuring expected business outcomes are achieved.
Collaborate with Leadership Team colleagues throughout the business to implement company-wide goal setting and performance management.
To assist the COO in the process of annual Operating Planning.
Meeting contractual delivery dates and reporting on agreed performance relating to the budget, including BDUK and RCF milestones.
Select/appoint and manage key subcontractors and ensure that subcontractors deliver high quality work outputs.
Identifying opportunities to enhance operational processes and efficiencies and drive the required change programmes.
Maintaining and building trusted working relationships with key customers, clients, partners, affiliates, and stakeholders.

KPI’S will be agreed annually but may include:

On time, to cost project delivery.
Delivery of contract milestones.
RFS targets.
Stock holding supply / levels as per BOMs.
Tracking real time CPPP & CCPC cost to build to plan.
As Built documentation for all RFS posting integrity.
Adjustment of build strategy (including Design and Planning).
Customer feedback.
Budget management.
Colleague feedback.
Quality Audit results.
Safety Incidents / Records.

Person Specification:

Knowledge:

Extensive industry knowledge with an eye towards the future.
In depth knowledge of the Telecommunications industry.
Knowledge of relevant regulations, e.g. Electronic Communications Code, Planning Rules, Street Works, PIA.

Skills / Attributes:

Must have advanced numeracy and literacy skills.
Ability to delegate efficiently.
Exceptional team management skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication.
Excellent computer skills, including expert with Microsoft packages.

Qualifications:

Educated to degree level in a relevant subject matter or equivalent business experience.

Experience:

10+ years’ experience within the telecoms/broadband industry 5 years of managerial experience, 3 of which should be at a senior decision maker level.
Leading the risk management programme for large construction projects.
Leading infrastructure build programmes of c£40m+

Circumstances:

This role will drive our build programme success, and the role holder will be expected to visit construction sites and occasionally meet with residents (or their representatives) impacted by the build programme. There will be some out of hours and/or unsociable hours required and travel beyond Cornwall may be necessary.
