Join a Leading Disability Charity
As a leading disability charity dedicated to creating a world where disabled people are seen for who they are. We provide housing, care, and employment support to over 17,000 people annually.
We are looking for an Assistant Surveyor to help deliver a professional surveying service that supports our Asset Management Strategy (you must be able to travel to meetings, training and locations as required to effectively deliver the role). In this role, you will ensure our homes and buildings remain safe, compliant, and well-maintained. You will learn and develop technical expertise to contribute directly to high-quality housing services, customer safety, and the long-term sustainability of our property portfolio.
What does this involve?
Working in a hybrid capacity, you will play a key role in ensuring our customers—many of whom have additional needs—receive a responsive, accessible, and safe service.
* Technical Expertise: Providing technical advice to colleagues, tenants, and contractors.
* Surveying: Carrying out stock condition, maintenance, damp and mould, and measuring surveys.
* Problem Solving: Diagnosing defects, recommending solutions, and producing specifications and tender documents.
* Project Support: Completing inspections, supporting major works, and reviewing invoices/certification.
* Compliance: Ensuring housing and building safety compliance, securing required permissions, and working with partners like insurers, fire officers, and care providers.
* Innovation: Contributing to policy reviews, service improvements, and data analysis.
* Responsibility: Following safeguarding and H&S procedures, and taking part in the out-of-hours Duty Officer rota.
Who are we looking for?
We are happy to consider people who have the potential to develop their skills to meet the full person specification. We want to hear from you if you:
* Understand (and are keen to learn more about) housing maintenance, construction, building regulations, CDM, and Health & Safety.
* Have experience in site inspections, contract administration, or compliance areas (e.g., asbestos, fire, legionella).
* Possess excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
* Can work collaboratively to manage a busy workload in a changing environment.
* Are proficient in IT (Excel, Word, Outlook) and housing systems.
* Have a proactive, customer-focused approach with a commitment to high standards and an understanding of tenant needs in supported living environments.
What you’ll get in return
We value our staff and offer a comprehensive benefits package to support your wellbeing and career:
* Time Off: 33 days annual leave (inc. bank holidays) plus an annual leave purchase scheme.
* Security: Occupational sick pay (6 weeks full/6 weeks half pay post-probation).
* Health: Health cashback plan (dental/optical) and mental health/wellbeing support apps.
* Pension: Choice of two pension schemes with enhanced employer contributions and salary exchange options.
* Rewards: ‘Values in Practice’ voucher scheme and tax-saving incentives like Cycle to Work.
* Voice: Involvement in our employee forum and colleague experience groups.
* Growth: Access to ongoing training, learning, and development, including formal qualifications.
