The Client
Our client is a thriving family run business commutable from both central Leicester and surrounding Leicestershire villages. They have a solid 20-year history of providing metal fabrication and finishing support to a whole array of clients across the country for various projects from bespoke one off’s to more repeatable works. From humble beginnings, they have grown exponentially over the decades having recently increased their site capacity to almost 90,000 square feet. They have a strong name within the industry and are trusted as full-service solution providers.
Due to this continued growth, a Production Manager is now required to join their skilled and dedicated team.
As a Production Manager, you’ll have complete responsibility for the end-to-end management of all metal fabrication operations within certain area. This will encompass all expectations from quality, cost, delivery targets, reliability and CI.
About the role
As Production Manager you will be responsible for ensuring the timely and high-quality completion of work across the 2 metal manufacturing departments.
Other responsibilities will include;
Agree daily and weekly production plans with the Production Manager
Maximise utilisation and uptime across all machinery, ensuring correct settings and tooling used and reducing scrap/rework through effective process control discipline
Owning sheet material flow from goods-in to manufacturing, driving improved utilisation of product and ensuring efficient flow of WIP between departments
Own preventative maintenance schedules across both laser and press brake equipment – monitoring downtime, coordinating with maintenance teams to improve reliability and drive improvement in machine uptime
Responsible for KPI performances and cost control within the departments
Leading, motivating and developing both laser and press brake teams – monitoring performance, setting targets, managing overtime/holidays and being responsible for a culture of accountability and quality
H&S across both areas of production
Lead continuous improvement initiatives across both departments, reduce set up times/waste and process variation as well as improving accuracy and supporting new tooling innovation and introduction
About you
To be considered for this Production Manager role, you should have the following:
Previous experience as a Production Manager/Supervisor within a manufacturing/fabrication environment
A background working within laser cutting and/or CNC press brakes would be highly advantageous for this role
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Experience managing production teams and manufacturing workflows
Strong understanding of quality, lean and process control
Previous experience utilising an ERP/MRP system
Solid leadership and communication style
Within this role you’ll act as the technical and operational authority for laser cutting and folding and therefore be accountable for overall performance across these departments. It is therefore imperative that any candidates looking to apply for this role have experience within a metal fabrication,
