The Opportunity
Join a leading UK engineering organisation at Principal Engineer level, owning concept design and supplier delivery for bespoke experimental equipment and its engineered containment in a regulated environment.

Your duties and responsibilities will be
Take ownership of concept development for bespoke equipment and its containment, capturing requirements, defining interfaces, and identifying hazards.
Direct the supply chain to deliver equipment that integrates cleanly into containment, including specifications, design reviews, compliance checks, and FAT and SAT planning.
Produce concise concept stage outputs such as CAD models and drawings, calculations, engineering notes, and integration documents.
Chair formal gated design reviews and drive actions to closure to maintain quality and configuration control.
Report clearly on schedule, risks, issues, and change, working closely with the containment lead and wider engineering team.
You will have the following qualifications and experience
Degree or HND in Mechanical, Systems, Structural or similar, with a record of concept design for complex engineered systems.
Proven delivery of bespoke equipment and enclosure or containment solutions within regulated or high hazard environments.
Strong supplier management and system integration capability across requirements, interfaces, and compliance.
Confident CAD user who can produce sound engineering calculations and clear concept documentation.
Comfortable leading formal design reviews with robust configuration and change control, operating primarily on site with diverse stakeholders.
Experience of dynamic test facilities such as high strain rate or impact rigs is advantageous.
