Overview
The job holder will operate as a special advisor/consultant to HMPPS for service user lived experience. The purpose is to provide unique subject‑matter insight, facilitate service users’ voice and experience, and support the development of work within HMPPS.
The holder will develop effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation, including front‑line staff, service users, the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS), senior officials from other government departments, and will advise on recruitment of staff with lived experience.
Responsibilities
* Engage with external and internal stakeholders to ensure service user voice and needs are considered in all aspects of HMPPS business.
* Embed service user experience into staff development and normal recruitment practices.
* Represent the Directorate at senior‑level meetings, operational delivery and strategic discussions.
* Provide senior managers with unique insights into service user experiences and guidance on service‑user aspects.
* Advise and support Reducing Reoffending projects and other initiatives across the business.
* Work as part of the Directorate Team supporting several initiatives and projects.
* Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and represent the Directorate at external or internal meetings when required.
* Develop HMPPS approaches that ensure the lived‑experience voice is heard in all work.

Qualifications and Experience
* Experience of building rapport with service users whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
* Experience of providing a service as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable Experience
* Lived experience of imprisonment and/or community punishment (there are no offence‑based exclusions; ideally you will no longer be on licence).
Technical Requirements
* A working knowledge of IT applications.
Security
Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check. People working with government assets must complete baseline personnel security standard checks.

* UK nationals
* Nationals of the Republic of Ireland
* Nationals of Commonwealth countries who have the right to work in the UK
* Nationals of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein and family members of those nationalities with settled or pre‑settled status under the European Union Settlement Scheme (EUSS)
* Nationals of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein and family members of those nationalities who have made a valid application for settled or pre‑settled status under the EUSS
* Individuals with limited leave to remain or indefinite leave to remain who were eligible to apply for EUSS on or before 31 December 2020
* Turkish nationals, and certain family members of Turkish nationals, who have accrued the right to work in the Civil Service
