Overview
We are seeking to design and optimize software for Laue pattern analysis with a focus on computational efficiency, real-time data processing, and automated crystal alignment. The role includes building mathematical models linking hardware control to analytical workflows and transferring knowledge to PSEL's engineering team for long-term adoption.
Responsibilities
1. Design and optimize software for Laue pattern analysis, prioritizing computational efficiency.
2. Develop novel algorithms for real-time data processing and automated crystal alignment.
3. Build mathematical models linking hardware control to analytical workflows.
4. Transfer knowledge to PSEL's engineering team, ensuring long-term adoption.
5. Analyse market needs to prioritize features and guide development strategy.
6. Validate systems using experimental data and iterative feedback from end-users.
7. Document progress through technical reports and presentations to stakeholders.
8. Disseminate results via conferences/publications (with IP protection).
Qualifications
* PhD (or near completion) in Computer Science, Physics, Materials Science, or related field.
* Expertise in algorithm development, numerical methods, or high-performance computing.
* Proficient in Python/C++ and scientific libraries (e.g., NumPy, SciPy).
* Bonus: Familiarity with X-ray diffraction/materials science.
* Strong communication skills to bridge academia/industry.
Salary and Benefits
* £30,000 - £40,000 (plus £4,000 training budget).
About the Project
This Innovate UK-funded Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) brings together cutting-edge research with industrial innovation. You will work within PSEL's team to develop software for Laue X-ray diffraction analysis, translating academic expertise from the University of St. Andrews and University of Oxford into scalable solutions for materials science.
Role Highlights
* Lead a high-impact project: Your work will directly enhance PSEL's capabilities in single crystal analysis, with potential for commercialisation.
* Dual mentorship: Embedded at PSEL's facility with academic supervision from the University of Edinburgh.
* Career growth: Access £4,000 for tailored training (technical & leadership) and KTP's national support network.
