Roles that require PVG Membership
Please note that from 1 April 2023, roles requiring PVG membership will require candidates to cover the cost. This applies only to roles with a full-time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above, including teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30,285 per annum / £16.64 per hour).
The Council will initially pay for the PVG membership (£18 for existing members, £59 for non-members), and this cost will be deducted from the employee's first full month's salary.
Job Purpose/About the Role
The Principal Scientist oversees the chemistry section within the Aberdeen Scientific Services Laboratory and acts as the Deputy Quality Manager.
Minimum requirements:
* Honours degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry and/or Chartered Chemist & Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
* Full current UK driving licence.
Demonstrable abilities:
* Experience operating a documented and accredited quality system.
* Ability to develop and document analysis methods and operational procedures.
* Effective oral and written communication skills with customers, court officials, and scientists.
* Ability to manage conflicting demands and meet deadlines.
* Experience leading and training a team of qualified staff.
* Ensuring operational procedures are implemented throughout the work section.
* Proficiency with computer packages including Microsoft Office.
